Some nice stuff there.. Why a Hope BB instead of a Chris King one? I'd have thought CK would have fit this build slightly better than the Hope. Weeks and weeks of research, talked to some people who had both and the bike mechanic who will build it, and everyone said the Hope is equally as good…for almost half the cost of the CK. I also like the fact that at least I'm supporting a british company on one component…because everything else is not. As much as i like Hope and trust their brand, ethos and quality, i just wish their designs were a bit less garish…less Race Face and more Thomson…if that makes sense. Fair comment.. Yeah, I know what you mean about Hope being a bit garish. For me, CK quality is way above that of Hope, CK just feels nicer somehow!

You've made me doubt myself…and now i realise i can actually get the CK for "only" 20 quid more expensive than the Hope from the States (a friend is already bringing me some parts)…having both the headset and BB matching helps my OCD…LOL…ill sleep over the matter.

You've made me doubt myself…and now i realise i can actually get the CK for 95 quid…"only" 25 quid more expensive than the Hope…having both the headset and BB matching helps my OCD…LOL…ill sleep over the matter. I'm the same OCD wise.. I fitted a CK headset to my Mega and just had to have the matching BB lol. I've had (BB wise) Shimano, SRAM, Hope and CK and in future I'll almost certainly opt for CK! Yes, more expensive but you get what you pay for! There's also 'matching the build' for me. For example, you have a top end Ti frame, XTR cranks etc Fitting a Hope BB just seems a bit wrong to me, a CK one would suit the build a hell of a lot better in my opinion.. It's kinda like buying a Rolls Royce and having Ebay floor mats in it.... You just wouldn't do it lol

I have nothing against Hope at all. I used Hope brakes, BB's and headsets for years with not a single problem with any of it. I'd still buy Hope for some builds! I freely admit that I'm a bit of a snob too (don't tell anyone)

I'm a bit of a snob too (don't tell anyone) By the looks of it you are also little devil on the side of my shoulder making me spend more money…lol But i take your point and i can just return the BB to the store and order the CK for 20 quid more.

Hope BB returned...CK ordered and I will get it along with the Thomson stem and E-thrw bolt in Feb...ended up costing 90 quid. Not too bad I suppose comparing to UK prices

More goodies arrived today...carbon handlebars, XT cassette, seat post collar, and 32T chainring. I have to say, I really like Thomson products. Simple design but great attention to detail and when you handle their products you can feel quality. Bars are just 205 grams?!? The One Up chainring really goes perfect with the XTR crank...I also managed to sell the original 34&24 chainrings that came with the crank on EBay for 35 quid (it literally took 2minutes which means I probably sold them cheap), so I got the XTR crank for less than 130 quid! Not bad!
Only dropper, headset carbon spacers and stealth decals for fork and shock left to buy/order...I think!?

Pretty much the same ain't they? yes…more or less…just different design of course…but I've decided to go with the Heritage ones for that old school classy look.

A few more goodies collected today. And courtesy of the awesome guys at Evans, some of these were purchased on the Cyclescheme which will save me some money. Shimano XT 40-11 cassette - even with my OCD, I couldn't make myself buy the XTR when the XT costs less than half! Went for 40-11 since I changed the NW so I shouldn't struggle too much and apparently the 40T improves gear changes and not as much strain on the mech. OneUpComponents NW chainring - sent the 34T back and got the 32T...it was designed specially for this crank and I think it shows. They also have the XT version. Btw, even though you buy directly from the US and pay dollars, you get the parts from the UK which makes the deliveries and returns easy and fast. Thomson Covert - very similar to the previous external routed one...in fact it's the only slightly disappointing thing that this dropper is an adaptation of it and not an entirely new dropper...the small black cap on one of the sides on the top and the groove on the collar where the plastic cable management collar sits is still there and don't look brilliant! And I wish it was all black! But that's just me being really picky! The red piece alone is incredible to look at and beautifully machined. The seatcollar is also very sweet. Thomson handlebar - is very nice and light. 750mm wide, 12mm rise. Shame the 3K weave is only seen on the ends which will be covered of course and not overall...I guess it's to keep with Thomson's tradition of understated looks. Would love to have the Ti version but it's almost 3x the price of the carbon...can't justify it really! It will get some ODI Rogue grips...nice, grippy, soft and thick. Also got some carbon headset spacers and Ti bolts for various things.

Very nice parts there mate, going to be one cracking build. Do you know what the build will cost once it's complete?

Do you know what the build will cost once it's complete? To the penny mate...lol! I have it all on Excell spreadsheet...RRP and paid price to understand savings I've made...It becomes a bit obsessive to try and find the best deals and squeeze every pound you can...I keep telling myself it's a good deal since I've saved over 1grand...mainly by buying a few things from the US, some Evans vouchers from their Crimbo promotion, some cashback from TopCashBack website (if you guys don't know what it is do it...free money basically!?) and the great discount I got on the frame, fork and shock! But it's still an obscene amount of money for a bike...but you only live once and I only have one bike, so it's all relative I guess!

So…I'm quite upset, annoying and don't really know what to do now…Kingdom sent me this photo of the actual frame (different shock will have) and i realise it has those "toggles" (or whatever the correct name is for the cable management) to run a standard external routed dropper under the top tube. Of course i don't need them since i will be running a stealth. I have seen photos of the same frame without these which i think makes it much more sleek. So its either keep this frame and try to remove them and sand it down which might still be noticeable or order a new frame without them which will take more time and maybe more money. I know some people might think "get over it mate, its two tiny bits…" but if I'm spending this sort of money on a bike, i wanted it to be as "perfect" for me as possible….argh…the dream turned into a nightmare…what do you guys think?

If it's going to really get on your tits then I'd order the frame without the tabs, like you say your spending a lot on this beast and I for one wouldn't be happy with it, if it wasn't perfect. Better to do it now than wait until it's built and then regret it.

The update is…a new frame is only available by end of May time…or they could send this one to the welder and get them taken out and re-polish…for 200 quid (should be 300 quid but as a good will gesture). Bearing in mind i got this frame over 20% off RRP. Or they can remove them now but can't guarantee exactly how it will look …like this below for example Part of me thinks I'm making a big thing out of nothing, but another part thinks not. They would also be under the tube…but i can just imagine every time i wash the bike or something and notice it…might piss me off. But again, its a bike that is supposed to get scratched, etc…really don't know what to do!?

I would wait ...what's another few months in the general scheme of things .. You are already pissed off ..and over time those feelings will probably grow ... The £ 200 that it was going to cost I would use in the meantime to hire some bike ( s) on a weekend so that you don't miss out anymore than you need to ...

But that way a new frame would not be discounted and I would have to pay full price...so 600 quid more! Everything was going so well...is there anyone here who can actually do some work on Ti frames?! Lol

Yeah, i can see what you mean about the "lumps". I don't like them either. Me, personally.....i'd wait for the frame to come as it should rather than faff with it and possibly ruin it and of course cost more. Nice component list too. Its not just the lumps now to be honest now... When you look closely, on the photo of the built bike, the top tube forms a straight line with the welded piece that links to the seat post tube. The frame on the photo you can see a noticeable kink…not quite so sure how i feel about this. Image and red line shows it better…still F^&*ing gorgeous but could be even more!LOL i understand that i am being a bit (possibly very) pedantic and obsessive compulsive about clean lines (i'm an architect btw so you can understand a bit better), but when you invest this sort of money on a bike you don't want to compromise. what a F%^&ing nightmare it is turning out to be.

So it is not just me being OCD, pedantic and stupid about it then? LOL… i obviously need to consider that the frame is hand made and there is some tolerance to be made there but still... Ive got a friend who could potentially sort out the toggles and get them removed…but the straight line is obviously a different thing…ill have to sleep over the matter guess.
(on the Lapierre above i guess when you sit on top of the bike, the sag will form a different line…but i understand completely! LOL…) Seriously…i have f$^%ing problems…lol
