Very, very nice that black and white. I've got the fabric saddle too - very good bits of kit and very comfy.

I have started to consider flats...sometimes SPD's make me too nervous on slow technical places...but then when you come down, I like the security it gives!?

I've found going from SPD's to flats has made me a bit more confident, yes you have to master the technique, but IMO it's a lot easier than learning the other way around, if you get me. Sometimes having the ability to dab in a split second is a game changer. Miss the climbing ability of SPD's though and I'd seriously reccomend shin guards if you do go over to flats. I learnt the hard way and had shins like sides of corned beef for a few weeks.

I do have to admit that I think it would make somethings easier for me...and I don't actually use the benefits of the pull tbh...not saying I will but, which flat pedal and shoes combo you guys reccomend?

I couldn't imagine wheelie/manual-ing being clipped in. The superstar nano tech pedals are hard to beat for grip and price. The saints aren't all that. People really rate the DMR Vaults. People tend to really rate well the stuff they have. You've got to get something shiny for that bike I've personally got the superstar delta mag. Not as grippy i think as the nano tech, because of shorter pins, but super light pedals and they grip more than most i've been on. Not ridden 5-10's as they needed to size up so i sent them back. Everyone really rates them. But like i said, i doubt people would buy £100 trainers and say they're only as good as £25 skate pumps I ride Teva Links (superb!) but no longer available and some Duffs. Also great for £20. I'll be getting some 2FO's next to give them a shot. shit...some really nice flat pedals around...lol... decisions, decisions...what if i try and then i don't like it!? a lot of money to throw away...

I use the Moove pedals, with the Teva links - rock solid combo.
However, as Gaz says, Tevas have jacked it - I'll probably look at the Spesh flatties next as I'm a bit reluctant to be a 5-10 sheep (as good as they obviously are) but I'm in no rush - these Tevas are bloody bombproof and for 45 quid....what a bloody shame they've stopped making them

personally i found the superstar nanos not to be very grippy . replacing the pins with longer ones has helped alot tho.

Not trying to start one of those debates, flats vs spd's or trying to prove which is best... Just, would like to know if there is anyone else here who actually rides spd's as well?! Ideally would like to hear from anyone who rides/rode both and their thoughts?! I do think sometimes, on slow techy sections spd's are not ideal and the ability to put a leg down on bends etc reminds me of the old days on the motorbikes...

I don't use spd's as such ( too rigid with no movement at all ) ...I do ride clipped in though on Time pedals ( atac carbon ) . I've never tried flats ..and have no intention of doing so ...preferring to keep the skin on on my shin...

Started off on SPD's and only really in the last year or so gone over to flats. Think it says everything that I'm in the process of selling my clipless shoes and last pair of SPD pedals. I've found since changing I am taking on bigger stuff with more confidence than before, I love the freedom to be able to move your feet about and therefore your body around the bike, my cornering has improved lots and lots since dumping the SPD's, the only thing that was better was the climbing - and I don't care about that! Took a while to crack the technique but now my feet hardly ever slip off the pedals.

To be fair a pair of vaults or v12 with five tens and your feet are stuck to the pedals if I thought they were shit I would say they are shit but nope great pedals and your feet don't move .. My v12 originals are still going strong My new v12 are slimmer and a wider pedal . Still grippy a s hell Didn't like mooves pedals even changes the pins still didn't like them v 8 pedals were so so as well ... Burtec pedals felt very grippy they were on some of the demo bikes and Ian had a pair as well and got to say was impressed . The shimano saints pedals didn't feel very grippy and meet slipped off a lot won't be buying them .. Was quite good to try different pedals on some of the bikes

I have to admit...i don't think i take advantage of the spa's when climbing, since i hardly ever pull anyway...on some technical sections, rocky, etc, when you go slow it somehow makes me a bit nervous because I'm always thinking if i don't unclip in time i will fall, and sometimes fall over steep bits (Glynn knows what i mean)...the only thing really is about when you come down fast...when sometimes i accidentally get unclipped it is not a good feeling, but i guess if its like what people say, a good combo of pedals and shoes will help, this seems a good option. I used to ride scramblers, and the ability to take a foot down on bends, etc, always helps and makes it more fun i guess!? Looks like people don't regret going from spd's to flats generally...of course for the commuter i would still keep the spd's! I already have shin and knee pads anyway. I need to sleep over the matter... (those Vault's and Burgtec's look sweet to be fair?!)

I've got the Mag vaults on the Bird and Mooves on the Chief - I can honestly say that I can't tell any difference between the two - my feet are no grippier or more likely to slip on either (only difference, which you can't feel, is the Mags are a few grams lighter)- though I do have different shoes to Gaz so maybe, for some reason, the 5/10's don't get on with the Mooves. I agree about the Saints though - bloody awful pedals.

Not being able to bail quick enough... Or striking That I now use flats... I agree though SPDs do making Climbing easy... Like an E-bike!

I mean, those would look perfect on my rig with the black forks and gold bits! Lol...100 quid he wants for them from 170 RRP! Those Vaults Brendogs look sexy as do the Burgtec as well.
