LOL nice! it'll be a good one then....enjoy and give us a report tomorrow. is it just you and nick, or is anyone else riding? jack i'll have a look at doing both but think they are probs best done seperate. Na be fine doing both Take plenty of food and drink and start early / park central ish and call back at car between the two for stock up of water and food

jack you do realise? theres around 30 miles 4500ft + climbing with cutgate and a basic jacobs ride combined, without counting the 10 miles and whatever ascent linking the two together? i'd ave to plot it and see what the total milage/ascent comes to.

actually the 10 mile link between the two would have to be done twice no matter where the start is, so thats 20 miles without doing jacobs or cutgate .............just saying. im now intrigued......i'll plot it tomorrow.

F£&@ it! It's not like me to say no to a challenge...if the weather was kind it could be a good one, but if not, I'm not sure it would be as enjoyable such a long ride around the Peaks! On the last forum ride at the Peaks it was really wet and after the cafe (long) stop, things were not that enjoyable after, if I'm honest! Tomorrow I'll have a feel for it and report!

to be honest G i still think they are best done seperate. it would be more gruelling than enjoyable to do both together.but i am interested to plot it to see how it comes out.

If you spent the day at it yes it would be hard but do able, start nice and early and a nice steady pace on the ups and not quite hell for leather on the way down to conserve a bit of energy
I'm quite happy to do just the one and add a bit more on top if people feel like it on the day and yeah I'd wouldn't be ideal on a crap day to do as far

After the 25.5 miles I did today, including Jacobs and many other awesome sections and tough (tough) climbs (long, techy, steep, all kinds!?), I would say doing Cutgate after would be crazy! Besides the fact that you might start to cramp, you would need to be super fit to actually enjoy it! Weather was good but we still found loads of really boggy sections where we couldn't even ride! However, I have to say, this was my favourite Peaks ride ever...Nick really knows some good bits around there...some of them cheeky routes!

iv just plotted a cutgate/jacobs route. 43 miles/6300ft of climbing. as i say, that would be more gruelling than enjoyment in my opinion. iv done big rides before but im going to keep the august one as something that we'll enjoy

TBH, I'm not even sure everyone would enjoy the one we did today!? Some really tough climbs! 25.5 miles at the Peaks is not easy, that's for sure! But I would do it again because I'm daft like that, and now that I know what to expect, makes it even better!

We did a 50 mile ride in that area a few year ago and it was the best day I have ever had on a mountain bike I was also thinking back to that ride when reading this ..stayed the night in Glossop and had a few beers and a meal .. You, Jaco, Ian ,Stevie C, Lee ..Andy Scott (?)...finished the ride at Langsett and the image of the sun setting to the left of the valley as we hurtled down doing silly speeds and kicking up dust is forever burnt to memory ...a great day ! Funny though how riding groups change as we never see the latter 3 mentioned anymore ..which is a real shame ...

That cheeky i tried today to the top of jacobs ladder.......crap, a complete peat-bog fest, apart from where it had been slabbed. Wont be doing that again until its completed. Soon forgot about it tho heading down jacobs.

Soon forgot about it tho heading down jacobs. Glynn Like i said, it was very boggy in places, surprisingly. Jacobs is good, a mix between "The Beast" and "Spud Alley"...specially the last section after the gate, through that narrow section...i found it more tricky than Jacobs actually. I would suggest if you want to do the Jacobs rather than the Cutgate in August, to ask Nick for the route we did yesterday...he showed me some good sections...really good! But also some tough climbs. 25.5 miles in total and he reckons over 4000 ft climbing...(i would say more maybe...lol). Lovely day for a ride today. Hope you had a better luck than me with the midges...i got beaten a few times...even with Skin So Soft!? They love the Spanish juice?!

im guessing the boggy section you mean is rushop edge.that is boggy most of the year.the rest of the routes aroound there are well drained. the very boggy section i did today was a cheeky path from top of chapel gate to the top of jacobs ladder. this section is similar to what you'd find on top of kinder scout, flat and peat boggy. iv ridden with nick quite a few times round there and more than likely done the route you did on sunday. did you do big bird ridge? as far as the midges, i tried hodgys recommendation of BALISTOL instead of avon and i didnt get any bites, of course i might not have been bitten even if i hadnt used anything. BTW i cleaned the whole of jacobs including the stream crossing at the bottom

Glynn ...I keep telling folks that Ballistol Stichfrei is the best repellant out there ..it's no fluke that you weren't bitten Ticks hate the stuff too...

not sure mate...you know me, I'm terrible with names. I spoke to Nick and he is not sure you actually did this particular section...i think it was his second time too. It was very nice. Did you start at Hope, Mamtor, Jacobs, Edale...broadly 25.5 miles? They were trying to scare me a bit on Jacobs saying it was harder than Beast...i found it easy tbh, clearing everything!? I need to get me some of that Balistol...if its as good as the waterproof spray, it will be great. How are you finding the new wheels? get them tubeless ASAP.

today i started in hope but we've also started in edale and peak forest before. we once did a 34 mile one from peak forest, then cavedale, mam tor, then did classic jacobs route ,also some was added on at the hayfield end, then came back to castleton and did winnats pass then back to peak forest. i was absolutely knackered trying to keep up with nick and his regular riding team. new wheels are good gonzalo, iv got a new tyre to pick up from post office tomorrow and i'll be fully tubeless again

gonzalo, iv just spoke with nick. the good section you mentioned, its the campsite descent then through the woods on a nice singletrack. me and kirky did it on a hayfield ride. i'd definately include that bit.
