this is a classic cutgate route starting in the last layby parking spot before upper derwent/ fairholmes visitors centre. from A57 turn off follow the brown sign for upper derwent for 2-3 miles, the parking is on the right hand side as you approach fairholmes. if you reach fairholmes or the mini roundabout next to it you've gone approx. 400 metres too far. postcode S33 0AQ. www.streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?x=417383&y=388914&z=120&sv=417383,388914&st=4&ar=y&mapp=map.srf&searchp=ids.srf&dn=700&ax=417383&ay=388914&lm=0 we best get there for a 9.00am start as the parking can get full quite early. we've got two options for the start and finish. either head over to the flagstone challenge then do a cheeky derwent edge, but it will probably be busy with walkers. the other option is to climb screaming mile then down suicide brake before heading to cutgate. its approx. 25 miles around 2500 ft of climbing, maybe slightly more depending on which option we take there will be some of this

If it's it's as good as it looks in the pics it's going to be a good one.
I'm down with whatever. With that early start I'll be struggling if my Mrs is working but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

Would have loved to have said yes to this ..but having just come back from a family holiday the week before ...I have no chance of getting this past the missus . It's a brilliant.. brilliant ride with some add ons which I won't have done before .. Sign up for it and pray for dry weather ...

I take that back... apparently I'm up for this but my shoulder isn't
Had an x ray today (6 week check up)
And my collar hasn't fixed in any way shape or form,
Still broken as it was the day of the operation and just like then the only thing holding it in place is the metal. ..

Chuffin ell jack! That sounds odd! Was it not a clean break?
|
|
|
Post by jack on Jul 22, 2016 16:44:44 GMT
Was a clean snap but one of the bits went under the other and pushed it into the skin
And a small fragment splintered off but when they plated it they either got rid of the shard or put it back in place
5 weeks odd should be enough time for it to Atleast heal mostly and get the strength back in it
Mondays physio should be strength building in shoulder and basixlly back out on bike... but now it's another 6 weeks till they even consider me lifting anything at all
Allowed to use the bike aslong as I don't fall off or lift anything... so can't do anything sketchy or that involved lifting the front end of the floor... so basic
XC and road riding only... I'm gonna be fit when I'm back haha

about 9 years ago i broke my finger badly. well it wasnt just broken but one of the bones was smashed to bits. at first they fitted k-wires, which were supposed to hold the bone in place while it healed. this was the easiest option but it was only a week or so before it was decided that it wouldnt work. so after another operation to remove the k-wires,remove the smashed bone altogether, drill a piece of bone from my hip to fit into my finger the healing then started.

Sounds disgusting it was hard to believe it was only a broken finger. but what im saying is that the healing only starts from when they get the repair right. sometimes with the NHS you have to push them every step of the way to get things going. they will quite often do what ever is the easiest or cheapest way. its just a bit hard to understand how its took so long for them to decide its not healed at all. hope the healing starts soon jack

1 week to go so time to bump this back to the top. so who's still up for this? as long as we dont have a full week of rain, conditions should be perfect. the exact route will be decided on the day depending on how many of us there are. dont want to be leading too many riders on a cheeky run on a busy weekend. but its basically an out and back from the meet place with a bit added on at the beginning

Should be alright for this as I'm confident I've swerved the problem of the Mrs working by the kiddies having a sleepover at their grans on Friday night leaving me clear for an early start.
Would you say it's super gnarly Glynn or steady, basically scout or Capra.

its got a bit of everything.some bits are quite techy, theres some short sharp climbs ,long steady climbs, as-fast-as- you-like descents. apart from a few bits of hike a bike its all ridable.

Sounds good. My largest cogs have been grating like hell on the scout so if I can't get around to sorting it then it will be the big goat.

I've got all my fingers and toes crossed that my dropper will arrive this week. Otherwise I will try to get a fixed post somehow and I will have to do it old school and lower the seat when necessary. But I'm in!

Jack you seem to be riding and running quite a lot for a disabled person or are you sticking to relatively smooth trails.
