all being well meself and gonzalo will be doing this ride. starting in hathersage, heading up shatton moor (1st challenge cleaning it without a dab) then down bradwell edge (2nd challenge getting down it without a dab). up pindale ( im not saying owt) and down cavedale. cavedale is in my opinion one of the hardest descents in the peaks to ride down. once you stop its hard to get going again.iv never cleaned it yet. then back up shatton for an excellent descent down what was our first climb. its around 19 miles amongst some beautiful scenery and views over the hope valley. we'll be starting around 10 ish and i'll post the meet place to anyone who will be joining us.

Cavedale?..I thought the only challenge was to get to the bottom alive! What a boulder fest that is ...one of our group cleaned it a few years ago..unconfirmed as no-one else was near him ...Ian Bell of The Bike Place fame . Sound like a good un Glynn ..have fun !

Even harder than the beast? (Even though the beast is not that hard if you just take your time and pick the best lines!). Some people think Jacobs is harder than the beast, which I disagree! Looking forward to it now!

Have you not got any elbow pads yet G, I am surprised or are you still researching them LOL.
The wales trip is a family holiday and I'm torn between taking the MTB although its a bit of a drive to any distant routes or fairly tame trail centres like Nant yr Arian or brechfa, and I might be pushing it to get more than one proper ride in, or take the roadie and ride 3 or 4 morning or evenings whilst every body is getting ready for the day or when the kids are going to bed.
I think he roadie is winning on this one.

great ride today, gonzalo enjoyed it (i think ). excellent effort by him to almost clean pindale upwards, we both managed to ride all of cavedale but with a few dabs on the way. the final leg back to the cars on the riverside singletrack was interesting apart from all the gates, very tight in places with the steep riverbank immediately to our left, in fact gonzalo almost went for a swim . a few photos will follow later tonight.

A great ride as usual...really enjoyed it...the footage i saw online of the Cavedale descent doesn't give you an idea AT ALL of how steep it is!? Glad I've done it though and most importantly made it in one piece along with the bike. For sure the hardest bit in the Peaks...The Beast or Jacob's next to it is kid's play?! After the ride, i went straight to Evans...my Thomson dropper is not behaving so it needs to go back and depending on the outcome i might swap it altogether for the new Fox.

Sounds like you had a great time ! Well done on surviving ... That Fox post looks a great bit of kit ( says he who wouldn't entertain a dropper a few short weeks ago ..lol )

I'm still trying to decide if it is enjoyable or not? Getting towards there is really nice, fast and flowy...you get to the first gate (not there anymore) and your legs and arms are screaming already...and that's even before the real tricky bit starts? Like i said....the video doesn't show how steep it is (1m55s). After the video stops there is also a bit more of techy bits. Overall its a great ride and one where you could even add a bit more of the other side of the Peaks if you would like to do an epic one...

unless the video is speeded up at all, that guy is really going for it on the techy steep section. gonzalos just checking out the top section of the techy bit one of the easier sections dropping down bradwell edge the intention was to take some action photos but we were busy holding on to the bars
