Just looking at the blurb ..it's described as a downhill tyre ..is this what you need ? Also 2.5mm width .. I was also ( maybe wrongly ?) Of the understanding that wired tyres were a good bit heavier than normal ? I'm asking more questions than you here in the hope that someone else has the answers ..

Like Neil says...thats much heavier and for downhill usually...more of a pain to set them up i would guess too. you want this www.chainreactioncycles.com/schwalbe-magic-mary-evo-mtb-tyre-snakeskin/rp-prod118254going to test it soon on mine and i can't wait. Apparently you need to be a bit careful with clearance because they are quite wide. Usual combo is with Rock Razor on the rear for better rolling or Nobby Nic (tested by Enduro-MTB Mag)

Thanks Team! Hodgy - Thanks for pointing out the width I didn't even notice. I think these are definitely meant for the big rigs and not my 160mm bike!
This is why i am glad I asked, I have never really played about with tyres before so I know nothing about them I have always just run stock tyres other than when I bought Specialsed ones before I sold my Nukeproof. I wasn't a fan.
Rlo - I thought the cool kids rocked a Hans Dampf out back... This is what I had been told.
Will get something ordered ASAP and report back

Rlo - I thought the cool kids rocked a Hans Dampf out back... This is what I had been told. Really? Looks like i will be a cool kid then...since i have 2 spare Hans Dampf and thats what i will be putting on with the Mary!? LOL The thing about the HD, is the when they feel tarmac they become like glue...and the side nobs are very easy to crack. When mine wear off, i don't think i will ever buy them again.

If you think the HDs crack then wait until you put the MM on, I've had 3 MM's now and all of them have cracked, not sure why and it doesn't seem to have affected the tyre. Thinking of changing to maxxis but not too sure yet.

I've had a MM up front for a while now with no cracking or any other problem. It is a fairly wide and chunky tyre so clearance could be an issue with some bikes.
I've got mine paired with a Rock Razor on the back and love the combination!
Hans Damph is shit.

You might want to try a Maxxis Shorty over a MM, it's pretty much my go to winter tyre these days

I'm very happy with the MM/Nobby Nic combo.

Got a 2.5 3c Minion, 2.3 Minion, 2.3 Aggressor and a 2.3 Minion S/S if anyone is interested?! It's the best combination I've ever ridden with. Not perfect by any means (RR - Useless in wet mud?) but for my riding, it's superb! I've not once lost the front end with the MM, if that's down to the tyre, suspension set-up or whatever, I can't be sure.

Im glad im not the only one...common sense tells me to put the Maxxis High Roller on the rear with the Magic Mary on the front...but it would be just wrong?!

Where OCD is concerned G is at a different level to most ..I didn't even know that my tubeless valves were gold in colour ..but I thought he was going to make me an offer on them after he'd spotted them on a rest stop on Wednesday ..lol

Your rims will explode if you mix brands. FACT.

Yes, this - I really really rate the Ardent as a rear tyre, but I rate the Magic Mary even more as a front tyre - so when the time comes the Bird HT will be getting a MM/NN combo same as the Chief. TBf, the Nobby Nic is a great rear tyre too, but even if it wasn't, I'm not mixing brands...OCD hell...
Like has been said - the MM is just solid, haven't felt it want to lose grip once.

A Mary is now on my front wheel...it looks f#%^ awesome...huge and ready to grip! As much as I like the Nic's (had it before on previous bike), couldn't justify spending more money on tyres when I have 2 almost new Hans Dampf...so one of them is on the rear...

Lol) nobby nic and Hans dampf aren't really a mud tyre, HRII is OK but you really need something that will clear the mud quickly, Maxis DHR, WTB Vigilate or anything thats narrow and spiky

I found them not bad at all!? Specially compared to the Ikon (which is very similar in thread to the Rock Razor)...but maybe that's an unfair comparison! Admittedly I think Nobby Nic have more traction. But if traction is what you want, what about another Mary? I've seen some enduros riders with that setup?

Imagine the drag with two of them... Yeah, but at least you should be able to get good traction!? Lol It would give you a good workout for sure! Can't remember which top bike I saw recently that had 2 Mary combo.
