I'm not really expecting anyone to join me on this one ..most of my regular buddies are away in Scotland / Spain..or working ..but just in case anyone else is interested ... This will be my first night ride for quite some time and it won't be full on ... as per in the dark when I start ...but if I get the timing right the 5-6km finish to the ride should be in darkness...and it's mainly a fab descent on singletrack If I was a Strava geek I would probably post some sort of pb's..as I will be shitting myself on my own .. Quite apt then that I'm having a late lunch / early evening meal with my daughter at 3.00pm ..it might be my last ! I'm hoping to start at 6.00pm at the Lead Mining trail head in Edmundbyers..its a there & back to the top of Bolts Law & return ..all over in a couple of hours ... My knees are knocking already ...

It can really start to creep you out when you stop for a drink and there's a pair of yellow eye's staring back at you from the tree's

Yep tell me about it ! Funniest thing I ever saw on a night ride was when we awoke a heron from its slumber in a tree ..never the most elegant of birds it flapped down onto Dave Tasker's helmet ..nearly fell off my bike laughing !

Great first night ride for the year, Bolt's Law was a perfect setting. It would have been a lot more 'interesting' if we'd set off half an hour later, we would have been riding in the biggest lightning storm I have seen for years.. a very magnificent and memorable evening.

It could have been even more interesting after your light failed for no apparent reason ..and we didn't have my bar jobbie to swap over ..made more interesting by the fact that I dropped the bolt for the bracket mount ..( how the hell did we find that again ?).. The onslaught from every insect , moth and other creatures investigating the lights made for an unpleasant few minutes .. One other top tip for night ride noobs ...keep your gob shut while riding with lights ..unless you like an insect mix -up!

It was certainly very good to borrow your bar light to get me back. My own lamp seems to take a charge, but then the 'fully charged' indicator lights up in about an hour, which is too short. Then it only powers the light unit for less than 1.5 hours. So in short, I think it's goosed. I'm trying to 'cycle' it through a number of charge/discharge cycles which used to work with ni-cads, but I don't think li-on cells respond so well, but got to try anyway before I cough up £15 for another set of ebay imports. They are 3 years old now, so can't complain.
