Not for me to decide. I will see if it's doable once a decision on venue and date has been finalised.

I'm in East anglia. I don't mind travelling but the lake district is 5 hours or more away so it's a bit of a trek for the day. Hopefully I can make a long weekend of it sometime 😊

Very dissapointing.. I thought Hodgy was the turn to man to sort things out on here...but as usual he is the voice of reason.

I certainly will be nowhere near the level of it but enjoying it is what it's about. You certainly look like you are

Yeah, get yourself a pump! It's necessary. To be honest I thought RS were pretty good with that, unlike Fox! I would personally spend a few extra quid but get a digital one (Fox sell one at Mojo but usually always sold out). Lezyne are doing a compact shock pump with digital display.
Any reason why you lean towards a digital display? They seem double in price so is the digital readout worth double the cost?

Here you go (nicked from google):
Found a better pic: Tortoise/Hare is for rebound (red dial)
Description/explained HERE.
Hope this helps.
Dirkpitt....I have just realised these pictures show the lever position. I looked at them on my phone this morning and I couldn't see it had the lever position. Thank you for posting them as that confirms what has been said.

A quick update...I decided to go to Thetford forest and have a couple of hours playing with the settings and seeing what happened. I went to the on site bike shop but they didn't have any shock pumps in stock so I asked if they could set me up as I was suited and booted ready to ride so they got the sag sorted for me. I set both shocks to the open position & the rebounds to middle setting to give me a starting point and see how it went from there. I hit the trails and the bike handled superbly, coming from a fairly basic hard tail this was like riding on a floating carpet. Both shocks worked perfectly and for a novice with nothing to compare the ride with, I was more than happy with the middle settings. The bike didn't bottom out or jump about at all, it stayed planted and absorbed everything. I was really blown away how it handled now I had got to grips with the shock settings.
I will probably play with the settings once I have got used to the bike more and my confidence builds with the rides. For now I will keep as is and just get used to characteristics and ride.
Thank you all again for your feedback and help on this. I really appreciate it.

Thank you Hodgy. I did actually see them pictures on Google but it still doesn't say what position is what so that meant nothing to me. I actually believed your suggestion more than my dealer as the guy was unsure himself until he passed me over to one of the service guys. I wasn't putting you down in any way. Just wanted to pass on what I was told incase any other stupid newbie like me has the same issue.
I appreciate everyone's effort in trying to help.
Thank you all. :-)

Just spoken to the tech guy at the dealer and he says 8 o'clock position is fully open also. The lever is over the tortoise side but he said those symbols are for adjusting the rebound and doesn't correspond to open and closed. That's opposite way to your answer Hodgy so still not 100% sure. I will give it a go today and see what happens.
Thank you all for your feedback

12 is locked 4 partial and 8 fully open. Is on my rokshok anyway and I can tell the difference when riding. Make sure you change with little or no weight on the bike and see if that works. Should only go back and forth between the positions not round in a circle, or in my OCD world that is how it happens. It certainly spins in either direction continously, not back and forth. I will have to call the dealer as maybe something is not right with it hence why I can't feel any difference.

Does it not say on the shock mate? It might say low/high can't remember off top of my head. I've got the rt3 debonair and can definitely tell a difference when the shocks in a different mode. There is nothing on the shock that I can see only the tortoise and the hare symbols.

It didn't come with a pump so that's my first port of call today. 5 K worth of bike and they can't supply a £20 pump. Now I know what position is fully open I can check how much pressure and go from there. Thank you for your help.

It's a rockshox debonair rt3 and the lever spins round both ways without having to go the other way. It has three lock position as I mentioned in the 12, 4 and 8 position. Might be me being thick but there seems very little between the 3 positions. I can't find anything on rockshox actually saying what position is what. I suppose they expect everyone to know this basic thing.

In idiot terms then Hodgy. Sitting on the bike looking down. 12 o'clock position is fully open? 4 o'clock is locked and 8 o'clock is trail position. Is that correct?
