Just to offer a quick update on this. Read an article today, the Solicitor won and the courts ruled that the instructor is 80% to blame.....

haha I will change one of my tires to annoy you next ride out Euan.
Last time i dropped into the shop where i bought my bike they said that a Magic Mary up front and a High roller II on the rear is spot on.

Well to be honest I'm not surprised that they are highly rated. Albeit I have Vigilante with the harder side walls on front and back but the grip they offer is class. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to a friend. If you like the grip they offer I would try getting the harder walled option. Very good value at the moment as well.

That's a good read and kept me entertained during lunch. After reading it it would seem that Magic Mary on the front and a Maxis Minion DHF on the rear might be a killer combo.

Ah OK, proper steal at £13 when I got them. Really liked the tire at the weekend.
I would buy again however as I am new to biking I plan on making my way though the brands to try whats available.

Try the thicker walled WTB tire.I can't fault them and they only cost 13 quid a tire from Planet X

I too am in the market for some waterproof gear as the wet weather starts to roll in. I want to up my time spent on the bike so will be looking at some of the above. Mine came today, first impressions are pretty good, very light weight and comfortable, if a tiny bit snug around the arse (treat for the ladeeez )
Not sure how they'll put up with the abuse ahead of them compared to shorts 3x the price, but we'll see
I couldn't help testing the water repellence, by holding them under a tap .. and TBH, they were quite impressive with the water running straight off like a ducks back, not really a test I know, but for £23 and free post, on the face of it they look like a winner at the mo !
Cheers for letting me know, could be a purchase this evening.

I tried the WTB tires this weekend, I really like them. I have the heavy ones though and while its noticeably slower rolling the grip was proper good. Just what i needed for the steep bits at Innerleithen. Will put a proper review up soon with pics.

I recently put some Shimano pads in to replace my old Shimano pads and they felt mega different. After a weekend thrash around Innerleithern they feel a lot better. Still not quite like my old ones though. Might give them one more run before i removed them and try roughen them up with some sand paper or something.

I use a "Platypus" bladder. Also used it while on a 10 day walking trip in Italy during the peak of summer. Water stayed fresh with no strange tastes.

Ok well that might be the case here then. I haven't been home for a few nights now so I will check and see what pressure the tire has held since last inflating it. I may just need to take more care to spread the Stans better once I have the tire fitted. Cheers all

Cheers guys, I will contact the Planet x people as it shouldn't be doing it. The Stans may fix the issues but its an issue that shouldn't need fixing by Stans in my opinion. On a plus note though new tires do look nice on the bike compared to used muddy ones. The tires will get a good work out this weekend . I will do a review with pictures soon for your reading gents. Thanks again

Here is s strange one for you all. I recently bought some WTB tires from planet x on a deal highlighted by one of us on here (13 quid a tire). I bought two ties to try as I thought at that price it couldn't hurt. So weekend past weekend I changed out my previous tires (Shwalbe Hans Damph front & Shwalbe Nobby Nic rear) for my new WTB tires and all seemed well. Returned a few days later to find my rear tire completely flat. Initally thought a problem with my valves or it wasn't seated correctly on the rim. So I pumped it back up and submerged the tire in the bath to find the point the air escapes from. To my surprise the value was good and the tire was seated well. What was strange was literally hundreds of little beads of air escaping from all over the tire wall . Not good. So i gave the tire a good shake about to let the Stans do its magic and now it seems to hold air OK for now. I will check again after leaving it for two days at 30PSI. My questions to all of you well MTB educated people is this, is that normal?? Keeping in mind the front tires is completely fine. Cheers, Danny

Cant fault tubeless set up here. I changed tires for the first time ever at the weekend and had no issues at all getting them on or getting them to seat properly....or so i think they are seated properly.
The only problem i had was putting the front tire on the wrong way and havaing to take it off and do it again.

Just remember, there was a time when you didn't know what was around the next corner on the trails. The only way to learn is to do it. They will be fine mate, hope you all have a good day.
