Last week while out I felt my headset was a bit rough, so tonight stripped it down to clean out. Was an FSA non-sealed bearings so once cleaned re-greased and built it back up... A good 2mm play in the bars/forks... So looks like new headset time. Options, buy a new headset (what would you go for? 1,1/8 and cups are visible top and bottom) Or see if my Chris King will fit and keep that instead of selling... Hmmmm

I would suggest you haven't put it back together properly if your getting that much play from a headset that was just a bit rough before you had a play with it

It had crossed my mind, the more I thought of it though, there was a shed load of horrible thick deity gritty grease in there, once cleaned the bearing were pretty loose in there wee cage thing. Either way it's gona have to go to the shop to get looked at

Just to clarify the movement is when say on the bike, put weight on the bars and the move forward ever so slightly and it kind if reduces head angle with the movement. The turning feelings still slightly rough/gritty with the new grease.

for the cost of a new headset I wouldn`t even bother with trying to bring an old one back to life.i`ve replaced shagged headsets with both nukeproof and superstar (different bikes) and I`d recommend either.ss was prob half price of the nuke but when fitted on my spicy it was smoooooooooth.

Standard 1,1/8, might even get a wee press and try it myself! But then I do like getting blingy new things That's my main problem

I used a large flat blade screwdriver to remove the cups on my lads frame.
