Day 2..The Arran Classic Dave & Jean on the track from Mayish
Colin climbing up Fairy Glen ...Goat Fell in the background
First view of Holy Island Dave hooning it towards Glenashdale Falls Desolation Angels ...lunch sheltering from the wind Hand built trail by Arran mtb Club ...the first pic really dumbs down how steep the drop was ..with even the two drop-offs at the top looking like tiny steps ... All very natural Just follow the yellow dots On the forestry track to Glen Cloy ..there is a massive waterfall in the distance The start of the superb singletrack descent down Glen Cloy...this got twisty and faster as it wound it's way down the Glen .... Day 3 ..to follow

Day 3 ...Clauchlands Route Downtown Brodick ..and the start of the ride Once the initial road climb finishes things start to get a bit gnarly ...and this bloke seriously does not like to be off the saddle Onwards and upwards Dave saying to Jean .." I'm going to ride further than you up here ( he didn't ! ) Colin Barkin Mad ...gently simmering.... THAT little knob of a Hill is Dun Fion ..that's what we launch off for the cliff top descent ..after first traversing the Clauchland hills ridge top Not a happy bunny ..he hates pushing his bike! Holy island ( again ) Colin talking to Dave ..but using words the like of which I had never heard The ridge top ..he's on his bike and happy again ...Goat Fell and Brodick Bay distant The drop before the climb up to Dun Fion and the start of the cliff descent Trig point on Dun Fion It's a big drop ! Roll over the top and you are on your way Near the bottom where it widens out Goodbye Arran ...but not farewell ..we will be back !

Yes Gaz new tread front and rear, it made all the difference to my riding, washed and back in their boxes now, still plenty left on the old ones. It was a brilliant trip thanks very much to Neil's organising, route planning and guiding. Managing to complete the Classic was excellent as previous attempts had been cut short dashing back for the ferry but not this time and what a treat the final bit of single track was, fast and flowing, excellent. All three rides were excellent being different in character and the last even being character building with a mistake meaning the possibility of not getting back up ever present! A huge thanks to Neil for getting us there and to Colin for the transport of our luggage, and it goes with out saying great company makes a trip like this so much more enjoyable and memorable. Also thanks to my better half Jean for keeping me fuelled and hydrated, showing me a clean pair of heels up some of those climbs giving inspiration not to get off and walk, and lastly checking if I had any more ticks (see below) The Glenartney guest house was an excellent base in Broddick and would recommend with delicious cakes waiting for us on returning each day with some tea. Good bike storage and bike cleaning facilities too. WARNING ticks are fairly common on Arran as I found out by getting 3 on the first day. As they had not started to feed they were very small and could of been easily mistaken for a tiny scab. Having had previous experience of these blood suckers I had a tick remover with me bought on-line, also vets usually sell them, so removed them fairly easily and intact which is the important thing as it reduces the chances of getting Lyme disease and you really don't want to get that.

Hey guys, glad you've had a great time and all made it back intact and unticked. Fab pics Neil and a great write-up, stunning scenery and some fine looking trails. Of course I am regretting my choice even more now, I definitely won't miss the next one.

I'm sure you're right, I am really looking forward to riding some Cairngorms.. just got to make sure I don't let any of the other elements(?) get in the way of the the fun... (I'm sure they won't, fingers crossed) I'd love a lift Saturday thanks. Are you certain you won't come down to Dent tomorrow? Paul's out, just Ian, Russell and I, unless Dave can make it of course??

Glynn is from Sheffield ..and a bit of an animal both up and down according to Gaz ..so none of this racing uphill malarky... On the other hand it might slow both you and him down ...

Hi Hodgy, I was one of the 2 other mtb'ing you met, we had a blast on Arran, although certainly less 'manicured' than we're used to in the Pentlands or Glentress. We /did/ make it up Goatfell with our bikes (at least to the shoulder at 620m) but in reality was beyond my skill set / hardtail... I'll leave it to the young or daft (when I get to a pc I'll post our bikes up the mountain...) Cheers! Iain

Nice one Iain! Glad you had as good a time as we did ..pretty weird to meet another forum member just on the extreme off chance of asking! Hope you keep posting up your adventures on here ..Euan..who is the main man on here is a regular Pentlands user ..as is Chopper along with all things Tweed Valley . Nice meeting you albeit very briefly ..and you never know we might meet again!
