I get in a bit of Road-work through the winter usually. On the CX though. I just hate the traffic, living in the center of Notts means you nearly always get nearly ran over at-least twice on every ride... Road riding is an excellent way to keep in condition.

I just don't get it mate, been on the roads and hate it, but that's just me. If others love mile munching then fair play, they are lucky, because the only way I would do it is for fitness . I did that from 17 up into my 40's, so for 23/24 years of training for my sport Tues, Weds, Thurs night plus playing Sat, Sunday and killing myself training alone ready for every pre season in between, I'm deffo done with training for a sport now. Now is just about fun and enjoyment, I've tried riding on a road on a road bike and sorry mate, fun it certainly ain't to me.
Good luck to you boys who think it is!
I'm keeping well away from road bike posts from now on because it always ends the same, one side piss taking and the roadies getting all defensive. Perhaps we really do need a road bike section where you lads can talk lycra and suffer scores without the baggy mob piss taking!

There is that side too! It's bloody dangerous!

I'd love to road ride, or at least try it. But, for aslong as there are people like me driving cars on the roads, you've got no chance!
I'd rather take my chance with a 20ft gap jump.. At least then I'd only have myself to blame for killing myself.

Road riding always gets a bad rap by those who haven't tried! Go out for a few hours on a proper road bike, do some fast descents (i've clocked over 50mph around the Shropshire hills) and tell me it's boring. Sure, I enjoy mountain biking more but road riding has it's place. Within an hour I can be in the sticks on roads with much less traffic on than the trails at Cannock! +1 the he think I like is I can go out to a quick loop get back and chuck the bike back in the man cave , and not spend the next 2 hrs cleaning the bike the gear and all the crap... Great for a quick blast after work, just to try and keep a bit of lard off my arse

I do envy that bit!

for me it`s the fact that you`re at the mercy of dickhead drivers who either don`t see you or don`t give a flying fcuk that you`re there anyway. my ride to work is 5 minutes and during that time I`m guaranteed to have at least one tit who`s going the same way as me almost take my front wheel away while cutting me up to turn left across my path.can`t knock anyone for putting some miles in on the road to gain fitness but why are the vast majority such a bunch of miserable farts?

I deliver to a guy who got onto the british cyclo x team (but was struck down with double pneumonia and almost died so never got to wear the gb shirt in competition) and when he was at his peak he was doing 600 miles a week just training

That's unreal. I know road miles generally speaking are easier than off road miles but bloody hell!
