It's not mine though. Took the Mrs to a LBS a few days ago to see what size frame she'd need as I planned on building her up a bike. Sat her on a womens Giant (before they became Liv so has a few Liv branded items), perfect fit. So while I'm having a chat with one of the sales guys about the merits of different brakes - riveting or what?! - she pipes up, "I'm going to buy that one", "Oh, okay!". So yeah, just picked it up. Down to £1500 from £2000, not a bad bargain to be fair. Few changes from the stock already: DMR V8's instead of pictured and ODI grips instead of the foamtastic ones on there. Specs: Frame ALUXX SL-Grade Aluminum, 140mm Maestro Suspension Fork RockShox Revelation, Dual Position, 15mm Thru Axle, OverDrive 2, 120/140mm Travel Shock RockShox Monarch R Handlebar Giant Connect, Low Rise 31.8 Stem Giant Connect SL Seatpost Giant Contact Switch-R Saddle Liv Contact Forward Pedals Not included Shifters Shimano Deore 20 speed Front Derailleur SRAM X5 Rear Derailleur Shimano Deore Shadow + Brakes Shimano M395, hydraulic disc, 160mm Brake Levers Shimano M395 Cassette Shimano HG62 11-36 Chain KMC X10 Crankset SRAM S1000 22/36 custom Bottom Bracket SRAM Press Fit Rims Giant P-XC 2 Hubs Giant Tracker Sport Spokes Stainless steel Tyres Schwalbe Nobby Nic 27.5x2.25"

Really? So you would want your missus as your best new mountain biking buddy ? That's what happens and unless she gets good very quickly expect your weekends to be taken up with jolly nice trips up and down canal tow paths or disused railway lines ...

Ahem, FAO iRide, next Wednesdays trip to Swinley forest (that's Swinley forest and NOT Cannock) is all sorted, message you about pick up time etc over the weekend

Calling Rach E to the thread... First time I took mine out on an MTB she managed to go OTB riding up a kerb. She then broke her arm on the Lakeside Way at Kielder: the widest, smoothest track you've seen. Ho hum....

Feeling ya pain mines the same first time out she crash five bloody times then I get a bollocking off an old lady who's walking pass with my good lady lying on the floor laughing at me getting a bollocking because she's crashed and I should not bring her out and let her do dangerous activates she could hurt herself lol

Thanks all, and as for canal paths, she's expressed no interest in that, more the "so when are you taking me to Bike Park Wales?". Gonna ease her into decent trails on the unmarked stuff at Haldon Forest, should be quiet enough and not tame like the other trails are.
Got her a load of kit coming as well, decent helmet, jacket, padded under shorts and a jersey for the time being and when she next gets paid she's going to look at some flats, shorts and knee pads.

I have tried for 2 years now and this summer we'll go on the odd canal bimble and even up to the Chase (but probably only as far as the Horns pub ) She fell off on a canal ride and it's knocked her enthusiasm. I know she was only trying it for my sake anyway. I admit I'd love to have her doing 'proper' trails - I feel no embarrassment in saying she's not only the Mom to my kids but my best friend in life too, any time together is time well spent to me. No, she doesn't read this forum . My two lads are making noises about getting into it this summer (22 and 18) and tbh, that would be a dream come true to me.

As for her always being out with my riding, she works a lovely Mon-Fri, 0800-1600 as a Seamstress, I work between 0430-2230 Mon-Sun, so my times off are vastly different to hers, but as I work with my main riding buddy I'm out smashing much harder trails that she will be for a few months.
Hopefully I can take the same approach with her riding as I took with mine when I started - I was riding BPW (albeit not stupid fast) withing a month of getting my first bike just over a year ago - so she won't feel as if she's slowing us down ever.

wow mr marsbarman thats a great bike she has there!!!!! I think its a great idea getting out together doing something thats not just the pub or dull like the cinema. she will love it and you'll still get lots of me time with your mates, you never know she may even find some great places to ride when she gets into it. Remember, lots of compliments and lots of new kit, that will keep her interested.
Mr zulu, that has to be one of the nicest things I've read on the internet, your wife is a lucky lady, its a shame she doesn't read the forum, what a waste.
