Just took the bird for a quick test ride after faffing for a few hours with the forks and bleeding the brakes which had been disconnected to remove from the scout.
Havong not ridden an hard tail since Xmas I fogot how much easier it is to get the power down and fly up climbs. Got a 32 chainring on at the moment but after a few rides and further tests on more demanding climbs I may be able to cope with a 34.
The fork lockout which had me stumped this morning and for a period of time thinking the fork was broken worked a treat once sorted and although I've never really felt the need before I tell it may be a useful function for the hilly xc I tend to ride.
Just had a local dash of 9 miles in 40 minutes with posing down rain and strong winds. Looking forward to a full year on more varied terrain In the near future.

Sounds good .. I've been given the go -ahead by the missus for a new bike and have been looking at the Aeris reviews. To be honest I'm in absolutely no rush at all and don't really know what to go for ..I have always said that I would go for an SC 5010 ..but will wait for a review of the new 2016 specd bike . I also want to know that the recent knee problem is going to get better before splashing any cash ..one thing is for sure though ..my hardtail days are just a deep and distant memory ..if and when I make a move !

Oooo..! I feel it my duty to start speculation about the price you may have to pay for that (not the bike) ;-)
I'm only wielding the wooden spoon, not making comment myself, once bitten etc.

No I should check more really because the iPhone or iPad are quite viscous with the predictive text, however the font is so small I struggle to notice the odd letter. I sometimes wonder if you are doing this deliberately ..( he said laughing !) Viscous :- having a thick sticky consistency between solid & liquid ...

Haha can't blame predictive text that time.
Noticed the new Santa cruz have longer top tubes as they previously came up short that should be a great improvement.
Should try one Neil and at the same time try to throw your leg over a whyte t130 and maybe a scout. All three are good all rounders the latter represent better value for money. Especially with some good reductions at the moment on the Whyte.

Had a looks at a T130 scr works myself today, very nice and a really good spec for the money. They have dropped in price from £3k to £2400.I've seen them as low as £2200 but that shop is now out of stock

I'm a big fan of the 5010 ..having had one for a week last year ..the 2016 model hasn't made it's way to Ian's stock at The Bike Place ( are they out yet? ) I know he was selling his carbon c for £ 2800...which is good value ..but I also know where it has been( Highlands, Alps etc and he is no shrinking violet of a rider )...also it may already be sold as he had an interested buyer last week . I will definitely be slinging a leg over one or two before deciding ..but as I have mentioned ..no real rush ..

Get you there Ste ..on looks alone ... It's getting really good reviews for the way it rides though..and is well specd for the price and to coin a phrase for other ugly " birds " " who looks at the mantelpiece when you're poking the fire ?" ...err ..that don't really work ..because I for one do .... You're right it's off the list!!

You're right it's off the list!! Not too fussed on reviews. I've got to like the look of it and I don't. Like you say, it's ugly. If I'm gonna pay for a bird it's got to look good. I think you should get the Santa Cruz Neil. You might pick up a cheaper 2015 one now

Got around to stripping the bird down yesterday and building up the new warranty replaced frame. The old shimano bb looked shagged already so replaced with a stainless steel bearing one. With no need to route cables through frames, recut hoses etc. the whole thing only took three hours, the first half an hour was trying to find a specific tool and then had a bit of a moment losing the smallest of screws that retains the ethru bolt into the drop out as it pinged off whilst screwing it in and lost for a while amongst my leafy, messy garage floor. Went for a spin out and alls well. Really could do with a dropper.

Got a dropper on mine Kirky (Zero) and it has, for me, transformed the bike. It now feels almost as capable as the Chief.

I'm not the tidiest worker. Took it for a test ride today and all was going well until the offside crank arm fell off pedalling up an hill. Guess I didn't tighten it up enough, all seems okay now as it stayed on for the next 20 miles okay.

Looks like i will be entering the N+1 club soon... I've been offered a 2015 Pinnacle Ramin one 2015, full rigid, 9speed, 29er, neon bright green, with a few good upgrades, as new for 200 quid...RRP was 500 but i think you could have got it for 400...however its as new and has a few good upgrades like Deore brakes and rear clutch mech, SLX shifter, Race Face chainring...i think it would be a great bike to commute to work, gym etc...saves me from using the Hex and when my eldest daughter gets to that age, she can also ride it...very tempting and i think I'm going to go for it?!

Go for it, don't know much about that particular bike however if you don't like it as that price you'll be able to recover your cash or as you say it will be cheaper than buying a new bike for your daughter.

I got a 2016 Pinnacle Iroko, I got it just before Christmas and have been out on it a few times now and I can honestly say that it is a great bike, for a hardtail it's not too uncomfortable and it's also bloody quick, I'd definitely recommend Pinnacle as a brand, I have absolutely no issues with mines.
