I have been looking at forks to throw on my Nukeproof Mega 275.
This came with a standard 160 mm pike, what difference would putting a 170 Lyrik make?
Please answer in laymen terms, I don't understand mechanical lingo

In laymens terms, not a lot 10mm on the front is going to translate into a tiny adjustment everywhere else. The height of the bottom bracket from the ground will go up maybe a millimeter or a tiny tiny bit more. Just double check on their site the frames happy with the fork length, I cant see why it wont be but just to be safe. you dont want to crack it.

I'm guessing it's the Mega AM? And putting a longer travel fork would:
- Create a slacker headangle, great for descending but would make climbing slightly harder - Higher BB, would create more ground clearance but would raise the centre of gravity of the bike - Increased stress on the headtube, could lead to fractures and invalidated warranty
The negatives there are really not all that serious with a 10mm increase in travel, but they would be present, albeit in very small amounts.

as what was said in the above reply ^^^^^^ the extra 10mm on the front end will change the head angle of the bike..... it will also void your warranty if the frame should crack or snap due to the change in head angle....

Find out what the maximum axle to crown distance is for your frame, 10mm may well be within the limits of the frame

I am thinking I will just stick to 160 to be honest! I don't want to be breaking anything.
I am also considering selling the thing with the scratched to buggery fork

What year Mega is it?
The 2015 Mega is fine with 170mm on the front (that's what NP says, not me)
I may have a set of Bos Devilles for sale soon if you might be interested!?

It is the 2014 Mega, are you rocking 170 in yours?
I am considering a few options at the min most are leading to a new bike. Will see what the boss says when she figures out what I am planning

Mine is 2015 and yes, 170mm on the front.
Not sure about the 2014 model. Don't quote me but I think the 2015 model was the first to be ok with 170mm.
I've ordered a 2016 frame and can only go to 160mm on that so will need to sell my Devilles and buy another set of Devilles lol

I thought the 2014 and 2015 were basically the exact same just with some new paintwork I am not 100% sure though

You may be right, I'm no expert. I know 100% though that the 2015 is good upto 170mm. I can't really say either way about the 2014 model.

10mm longer fork, translates to 5mm increase in bb height and half a degree slacker head angle.

Can the devilled not be lowered like fox and rock shox jay to save the extra outlay! I'm not too sure, mate. I don't like my forks messed with though so I'll just sell them and buy a new set anyway! I'm strange like that.

It's normally a simple operation which you could get the service centre to do whilst servicing the fork.
Or do you get rid of the fork when it needs a service?
I've never had a fork long enough to warrant a full service but will hopefully do with the scout.

2014 mega tr 275 recommends 140-160 forks. what i have wondered is if the bottom headset is external, will that affect the recommendation.

Just out of curiosity could you put a 150 fork on a 160 specced frame? I know it would alter the geo slightly.

Just out of curiosity could you put a 150 fork on a 160 specced frame? I know it would alter the geo slightly. That would be fine, would make it a bit steeper and drop the BB a little.

You may be right, I'm no expert. I know 100% though that the 2015 is good upto 170mm. I can't really say either way about the 2014 model. According to CRC the Mega AM 2014 and 2015 can take up to 180mm
