Just a few words of congratulations for the work that has been done on the Lonesome Pine Trail and in particular the section that leaves the Lakeside Way to make its way along the Lewisburn Valley.. Well done to all especially Dave, Jean , Russell, Graham , Ian the two guys from Haltwhistle ( who's names I can never remember) and Alex from the F.C .. The sheer physical effort required to move all that stone into place is worthy of a mention on its own ..and included some helicopter drops ! The trail itself having been maintained is better than it ever was ..even from new ! Well done and grateful thanks to all ...from a retired volunteer who appreciates the amount of toil you have put in .. A few pics ( there was a bit of trail debris at the start due to the recent severe winds )

Sounds like you enjoyed yourself Neil. The day of mistiness is apparent and a bit mystical, were there any soggy bits? And the black stuff doesn't look as bad in your photos as I have sometimes thought it does straight after it's laid.
Nothing for it now, I'll have to get up and ride it as soon as.. I've not seen the from Lakeside Way to Lewisburn footbridge at all yet since it was done, probably by Russell himself mostly :-O Thanks for the update.

As long as you don't mind a slow paced rider (climbs) I could show you around the best of the 3 trails .. Choose your day carefully over winter though as it gets snow when other areas don't !

That's part of the problem ...we never really plan rides rides at Kielder as its our local ... Myself and a few others were about to give a ride to Max Darkins at What Mountain Bike Magazine mid year ..we've given it the name TOUNT...( tour of the upper north tyne valley ) ...although it was all strictly legal using little known trails and bridleways it was requested by the FC to hold back from sending it even though the magazine were mad keen ..to give the Sandstone Way route a chance to take off / bed in . We intend launching this ride next year ..it starts & ends in Bellingham ..and is a seriously tough undertaking ..we won't ride it again until the clocks turn and it will need checking out again for damage in the forest sections ... We put a lot of ninja trail work into this so it's got to see the light ...and if I say so myself it's a hell of a ride...40+miles ..I will give you a nod if you are interested ?

Just give me a shout when you would like to go Lee ...to be honest with a bit of notice any time suits ..but I would guess we'll be looking at January now ..weather permitting ..the way the holidays over Christmas & New Year are falling ..if it's a weekend then my Sunday's unfortunately are already taken ( Dads Taxi ) ... I will leave it up to you as to when you would like to go ..probably easier that way .
