Great to get out today and after recent maintenance on the Lonesome Pine Trail at Kielder I was keen to see what has been done ...set off from Lewisburn at 12.30 pm ..and got a bit carried away time wise ..almost forgetting to meet the school bus to pick up my son ! A few pics Suspension bridge crossing the Lewisburn Reflections on the " lagoon" that is now the entrance of the Lewisburn into Kielder Water ..this was once a raging rapid which we used to single kayak on before the valley was flooded to create the reservoir ...where the burn met the North Tyne river This bridge was lethal ..I was like a bloody giraffe in stilettos trying to get across ! I eventually broke cloud cover .. A great view looking over to Deadwater ..black trails which I didn't have time to visit today The start of a trail which is fairly unique in so much as not one machine was used on its construction ..totally handcrafted ..and the last section of trail I was personally involved on ..having flagged the initial course of it with Ian Bell and being quite heavily involved in its build ( even dragged Alex along as a 8 yr old to help ) ..it's also the first trail Graham got involved on and while others like Ian , Dave , Jean , Russell & Graham from KTR along with Alex from the F.C have gone on to do so much more ..I'm proud to have contributed my bit on this ... For those who know them Dave & Graham are two of the builders featured on the notice board .. This in my own mind is called Hodgy's Hump as it was my suggestion ..a bit of a jump if you can get enough speed from the fire road at the very start Although not really shown it has a few technical sections ..jumps ,drop-offs ..etc ..and this little feature named soggy bottom ( for obvious reasons ) it's a lot steeper than it looks on these pics It really was good to get out !

That little rock garden crosses a stream .. it's not so little in the flesh .. It's one of those that if you hit it at speed you won't even wonder what the fuss is ...scrub some off and you won't make it up the other side as there is a slippery log built into the track ( and it is loads steeper than it looks ) ...if you are following someone who knows the trail you are more likely to succeed first time ..on your tod and you will most probably take a look ..the noise of the rushing water as it drops off to the side is off putting too ! It took me two attempts yesterday not having been on the trail for a year or so ..got angry with myself after the first pathetic effort ..and that got me over on my second attempt .. You can tell me what you think if you do the 101 next year ?
