Unfortunately yesterday's ride at Hamsterley didn't happen ..but probably could have tbf as the conditions at least in this part of the world didn't turn out to be as bad as expected ...but hindsight is a wonderful thing ...
So for various reasons today's alternative ride at Kielder was unsuitable for all but two of us ..which both Ant and myself thought was a real shame ( it's good when all the gang is together ) .
Arriving at Kielder the first person we saw was Russell who was blocking the way to our reserved parking spot behind the Bike Place ..he had promised to go with Ian Bell to do some trail maintenance at Oliver's Oscar on the Lonesome Pine Trail ..didn't stop us trying to persuade him to dump Ian in favour of coming for a ride with us ...it was funny seeing how torn he was ...but then Ian turned up and didn't have any riding gear ..so that was the end of that !
We knew would see them later in the day when we reached that section .
The weather had turned a good bit nastier upon arriving at Kielder so we were quickly on our way ..but as always once riding it really didn't matter a jot.
The riding was great and although I gave fulsome praise to KTR on a different thread ..I will do so again as it is fully deserved as they have made a real difference to the quality of the riding this year on existing trails that were beginning to look a bit tired .
Many thanks to Ant for the lift and the craic ..he has a great " dry " sense of humour ....
Here are a few pics ...
This is Ant on a section named after him " Ant's Path " ...designed by himself and the initial removal of trees was down to him ..it's an alternative black section ( although this part is fairly straight forward )
Ant again on the start of Oliver's Oscar ..in relax mode
Where further down we met these two numpty's ...I mean who the hell goes out in weather like this ...lol !
Russell mid ground and Ian background working on an extended berm ..which we trashed for them upon leaving ( only joking ) ...and joking apart ..total respect for being out there on a voluntary basis fixing a trail for you and me to enjoy ..thanks lads .
All n all a cracking day and so glad we went out ..
