This has been put forward as a possible destination by our local bike shop owner Ian Bell ... One of the Seven Stanes I've yet to visit .. This is not 100% yet but is looking more likely than not ..with Ian , Graham & myself keen and Ant also if he can get time off ... Will confirm soon for anyone else who might be interested .. Edit : obviously weather dependant too ..I'm not daft enough to think that winter has passed yet !

I wouldn't mind a couple of days up those parts sometime in the future but this one is a bit too early for me and I have to be at a trade fair until the 22nd Feb.

Pity it's mid week,Dalbeattie is a cracking ride , its got a bit of everything That's mainly due to the fact that Ian who we used to ride regularly with can't do weekends ..and it's been a while since any of us have ridden with him ( apart from Russell ) ..so looking forward to his company again

I just spotted this thread....sorry I won't be able to attend... my auld arthritic knees would only slow you guys up... y'all have fun now Y'hear.... and don't for get to be careful on the "Slab" , the Qualifier and the Terrible Twins are pretty straight forward..... but remember "If in doubt then miss it out" and watch out for Shakey Jakey and Eye of the needle.....

Don't know about the slowing up bit Doogs ..there are none of us spring chickens..although as in any group some are faster than others ... Don't worry ..I will be having a bloody good look at every " feature" first ! Shame you can't make it .. I'm looking forward to finally getting to ride here at last ..having had to suffer the agony of a Motorhome( my dads ) holiday here ( Kippford) when Alex was only 3 and being within spitting distance of the trail which passed just over the road and being stuck inside that Motorhome because it pissed down most of the week ..and the bloke on the next pitch telling me how good the riding was...payback time !

....forgot to mention..called in to see Ian yesterday and he is talking about doing Mabie afterwards ... I know this has been done before a good few years back ..but this l'il pup won't be doing that ! I do believe that it nearly killed one or two ..so take a good look at Ian & Russell on the car park as you might well not see them again for the rest of the day ...lol

The constant rain and 130 mile drive home afterward didn't help matters www.strava.com/activities/458820790www.strava.com/activities/458820810

Aye Gaz ..like I said myself & one or two others probably won't do that ( they have long memories ) I really like riding with Ian ..but he has always been the same..when he travels to an area he thinks that he has got to ride everything in that area on the same day .. Even our weekly night rides which at one time used to be religiously every Wednesday whatever the weather threw at us used to turn into bloody epic rides ..not getting home until the early hours of the next morning and work the next day I think we have only been out once with lights this year but that's just because we are getting soft in our old age ... Ian & Russell will probably do both ..it will be interesting to see if anyone else is tempted!

Do you do the skills sections at Dalbeattie on your way round?
I had a lucky escape on one of the first steep rocky sections, got my shorts caught on my seat and could get over the back on the bike.when OTB big time. Luckily I landed on my head and the helmet took the impact but I felt like I'd been in a car crash the day after. One of the guys got it on video, I'll have to see if I can get hold of it and post it up!
It's still one of the best trail centers I've ridden, the long wooded uphill section to the Slab seems more like downhill than up in an odd sort of way, it's really flowing so you don't realise your climbing if that makes sense!!
Have a cracking day, wish I was coming with you!

Windy Gaz ...personally I have never been to Dalbeattie ..I've been to Mabie before and enjoyed that ..so tomorrow is all new for me ... The time they went and did both ..I think I was washing my hair that day ...I will dedicate my first crash of the day in your honour ..lol
Marmite Gaz ..you're getting your fair share of rides these days and being only 32 ( !) you've got loads of years in front of you to bag this ...

It was me, Jacko, Stevie c, Andy and Roger that did Dalbeattie and Mabie on the same day and I can remember how knackered I was on the Mabie climbs, I was a lot fitter then, about 6 years ago I think,so needless to say I will be with the more leisurely group

Fantastic ride today ..probably the most technical trail centre of the 7 Stanes ..brilliant weather too ..starting off frosty but turning into a "Spring" day with warm sunshine at times .. One nasty off which I didn't actually see but Ant reckons Ian was hanging onto his bike like he was riding a bucking bronco after coming into a section which was marked as red but the black to the side of it was a piece of piss in comparison ( pic tomorrow) He was able to continue but the bruises came straight out .. Only one of us attempted the slab and made it look easy .. Any guesses? Thanks lads for a great day ..not too many pics to be honest ..spent most of the day catching up to Ian & Russell who did go to Mabie afterwards...

A mint day was had by all, a nasty fall was avoided by Ian, just as well he fell off though as I was right behind him and if he hadn't I would of lol, no real harm done and a good day was had by all, Russell didn't mess about riding the slab, he walked down with me and Ian to have a look and before I got back to the top down he came, no bother atall, very impressive

Fantastic day out on the techi stuff Suffice to say this is what mates are all about -- thanks to Neil Grum and Ant for making sure it was a social ride to the end - just what I needed to convince me not to sell the bike to invest in a funeral plan! And as for the other 2 super fits - Ian and Russel - great you put up wth us mere mortals before charging off to Mabie Maybe after my Buddist reincarnating I will be able to do that too! - but for now thanks for a fantastic day out looking after Grandpa - and cheers to Macidee for rounding it off so well with a well deserved unhealthy treat after our bout of healthy exercise - great fun- bring on the next one!

One or two pics ..nothing too exciting I'm afraid ... Start of the ride meet up ..l-r. Ian, Colin, Ant , Russell ...I think Graham was watering the bushes at the time .. Ant saying to Russell ..."Aye man whey ya shoulda seen the size of tha bacon & sausage buttie a had at that burger van on the way here ...it wos massive ..Hodgy could only manage a bacon one like ...an it made yours look like a sick puppy .." Russell who has been known to eat 3 times his own body weight on a ride listens in amazement ... ( they were bloody good sarnies though !) This is where Ian came a cropper ..although it looks nowt on the photo you don't really get to see the drop off(s) coming into this at the beginning of the section or half way down ...it just looks smooth on the pic ! We didn't know if someone had deliberately changed the red & black arrows around on the post as the " black " to the right of this was a doddle by comparison ..or if the trail had just eroded due to weather and riders over a passage of time ..but the red was definitely black ! That's it for pics ...but it is a great place to ride ..I will get more the next time ...
