Collection of snaps some from my crappy ten pound special camera phone, a few nicked from the likes of Glynn and Gaz. I've got some stuck on a iPod from around Hebden Bridge and a section of newly discovered trail that I'm struggling to get off but never mind. s1049.photobucket.com/user/kirky72/January/storyThese last few days I'm mostly riding this and the only view is of my back garden that's in need of some Tlc at the moment. picked up this spin bike for a freebie from a guy I bought some parts off along time ago. It needed a bit of tinkering, but after a clean up, degrease and lube of the chain, re tension the brakes and the tension of the flywheel which was almost jammed on it's running great. It's nice and heavy which means you can go hell for leather in 100% effort intervals and climb out of the saddle with no hint of wobble.

Err - why have you got brakes on an exercise bike?

It's got one brake because it's a freewheel bike. Eg pedal it like a normal bike chain driven to the front wheel which weighs around 20kg. If you are spinning at a reasonable speed and need to stop then you can't just stop pedalling as the weight of the wheel drives the pedals around. so you need to gradually scrub your pedalling speed or use the brake in emergency in my youngest walks towards my whirling feet.

Aaah get you - it was a genuine question as I'd never seen a bike like that - only the gym type ones which I'm fairly sure don't have brakes, from memory.

Anything that's powered doesn't have however I think most spin bikes are the same, the big wheels is slowed down by adding resistance to it, I think some work magnetically, this one us mechanical and as you turn the nob to add resistance it tightens what looks like large brake block onto the wheel so it's harder to turn.
In some ways it's more bike like than the electric one I had.
