Same as Hodgy, seems a good combo. I had high rollers front and back before this, they seemed to grip better but were dh casings so it was hard work on the climbs.

Currently have the minion up front and nic on the rear. I find the nic light, pacey and grippy and got on well with it. That said I am about to change it for an ardent on the rear as its worn out and I wanted to try the ardent after reading good things about it. My ocd hurts having a maxxis up front and a schwable rear. Tut tut......

WTB Warden front and rear for me these winter months. Will probably put a Wolverine on the rear for summer.

HD for me all the way... Grip like no other I've tried, only used them on the 29er though. Pacestar comp on the front and trailstar comp on the rear..

Never seen anyone use the faster rolling pacestar compound on the front before? Obviously it works for you if you like it but have you tried them the other way around?

Lol its what I meant lol not sure why I wrote it that way round. Grippy softer one on the front harder faster rolling on the rear. Ofc

Haha, that's better, I used to be a big fan of the HD trailstar on the front until I washed out one day, changed it for a Magic Mary and never looked back, I do prefer Schwalbe over Maxxis but I feel that they need a tyre somewhere between the HD and the MM before I go back to them.

HD's are needlessly heavy for the grip... I'd go with Ardents all round personally... A good all rounder..

They are weighty, but work for me on the Chief. Not sure about an Ardent on the front! My rear on the Zero does tend to slide easy (in a good way though) but on the front it would give me 6 heart attacks, 4 seizures, a couple of anal prolapses and make a bit of poo come out - and that would be before I'd even got off the car park.

I'd maybe run an Arden on the front if I was sticking to Xcode trails where there isn't much chance of gloop but up here there is no chance of that happening

I've just swapped my 4.8 inch jumbo Jim's for some on one floaters if that helps.. Heavier than the Jim's but actually grip in the slop... Will swap back once it dries up a bit. Not sure this helps with your choice much haha

Yes, Ardent front would be fine for a blue route XC speed machine I reckon. What's a minion SS then Euan? Not heard of that one.
