Every time I increase my time in the saddle be it a longer ride or two than usual or a mix of bike and spinning I tend to get a terrible saddle sore.
This ranges from a medium pain that feels like a constant pinch too a deeper ache. The problem is mainly a feeling of my perineum being swollen and tender especially normally on one particular side . I've only had it so severe that it resulted in a true sore, a hard lump under the skin that took some time to disperse.
I do use padded short liners but wondered if there's anything I can do to elevate this either preventative or to treat to get rid of the discomfort. Any creams or ointments such like.
It does seem to flair up more so through winter which maybe due to having a slightly soggy under carriage.

The Perenium would appear to cover a few different parts of the area concerned ..can't really offer any advice to be honest . The only " ointment " that I have ever used in that area is Slick ..which is a spray on barrier cream to prevent chafing ..but I don't think that is what you are asking ? I myself have a pain on or around my coccyx which is refusing to go away ..this may be as a result of a failed attempt to catch a rugby ball a few months back now ..starting to get a little worrying ! Hope you get to the bottom of it ..pun not really intended ..

I think the perineum is the correct term for the area between testes and anus. It is some what swollen looking but I think it just matches having a fat arse.
I've been applying sudocrem left from when the youngest needed it, maybe it's gone out of date or just the wrong stuff for the job. I may try some cream like the roadies use but I've never needed it before.
Along with my dodgy knees and constant phlegm issues it's just another pain in the back side. (Pun intended). It's funny how regular people write or say no pun intended directly after doing their best too think of one.lol.

I used to run a Fizik Gobi because everyone used to say it was really good and comfortable...on long rides I use some Altura bib shorts (Lycra I know...sorry!) under my baggy's with Pro Gel (I'm sure there are better out there but I didn't want to pay much). But after 3h I was also feeling it...I still have not tried it yet, but I can see straight away that the Fabric Scoop saddle is going to be much much better...spoke to two different people who say it is very comfortable. The material is spongy and has a relief zone for the perenium. It is also designed in 3 shapes, the Radius one being the most padded one for more up-right positions, which more and more these new frame geometries/bikes have. Might be worth a try?! If not, try to adjust slightly the angle of the saddle backwards and forwards. Surprising how much sometimes a little tweak makes such a difference. I have a great balm I put on when running long distances to prevent chaffing, but I don't think this is what you want. Good luck

Re...pun(s) ...I never have to think that hard about what I'm writing ..it just comes naturally ..and if I had intended I would have " claimed " it ! Haha

Got the Fabric Scoop saddle on the HT, brilliant bit of kit, it's even more comfortable than the Charge Spoon, worth a go Kirky, specially if it eases the old love blob containers

As rlo80 said look at your saddle first. Tweek the angle to take a bit of pressure off. Next good padded shorts are a must, keep them clean to avoid bacteria. Try a balm or something like lanacane which reduces chaffing but also is anti bacterial. Next,if you have a sore, sit on a big bag of ice or try some anti inflammatory gel for the swelling and your sudocreme will help if it's a bit red. Finaly MTFU

Give bib shorts a try, something like the decathlon 700 range have a good quality pad with out spending a fortune and the bib bit keeps the pad in the correct position.
My new bike came with a saddle which was uncomfortable after a few hours so I swapped it for a charge spoon as I knew they where comfortable.
So good bib shorts and a saddle that suits you should solve your problem.

dont know if this is going to help at all john, but i often get numbness in my arse as opposed to actual pain. i just make sure i stand up out of the saddle as much as possible where i can.even if its only for a few seconds at a time. it gives my arse chance to get some circulation back in there.just wondering if lack of circulation coud be the cause of the soreness?

My standing when I can and even Climbing out of the saddle just to to give it a break.
I've positioned the saddle tilting back a little to put pressure on my arse rather than the mid area.
I do have a fizik gobi so a big concerned now re Gonzalos comments on it but I have had one going back a couple of years and can't remember getting such sores. If it persists after some adjustments then I may look at a change of saddle.

If it persists after some adjustments then I may look at a change of saddle. Exactly mate...Gobi's are supposed to be great with their "specially designed grooves under, Wingflex, Tailflex blah, blah, blah'...Bullshit... I remember not so long ago, swapping my bike with my mate's for a little bit while at the Peak's...i had my Gobi XM carbon braided rails (luckily didn't pay for it) and he had a cheap saddle, albeit not that padded...cost him 20 or 25 quid...straight away i felt a massive difference in comfort and he said..."do you know this Gobi...ive got a new one that i was going to put on but its not that great actually and i will actually return it"...this is the same guy who advised me in the first place to get one because he used to ride them and love them...interesting what you say, because he also used to think it was great a few years back, but certainly not when he tried mine. so to sum it up...much better saddles out there. i got in touch with Charge because i wanted to get a brown leather, Ti railed Spoon following loads of positive advice...but the guy there said, if i wanted comfort to give the Fabric Scoop a try because it is even better. He also said the Ti rails is the most comfortable due to the properties of the material...but i was going for it anyway because i am a sucker for Ti. i think bib shorts, padded shorts do help...but it starts with the saddle...and a big problem for me with the Gobi is the fact that it doesn't have that central ridge on the back for relief. Like i said, i haven't tried it yet, but the Fabric does look like it will be worlds apart...so well designed and so intelligently made. Reviews are great! When i get my bike next month and if we ever meet, you can obviously give it a test ride...
