Any idea what this rubber bit is for. Came with my xt shifters and has a hole through it for the cable but not sure where it goes.

does it not fit at the end of the rear gear cable and the top end of the derailleur

It's supposed to go at the end of an outer cable section. Some bikes can take full outer cables, but others don't, so you put these to stop dirt getting in the Inners.

Shifters you say ? Looks to me as if it's something to do with your brakes if that label is anything to go by .. My guess as a secondary use would be that it's a rubber bung to stop you crapping yer pants when the brakes fail and you realise there's a part missing ...haha !

Ah I see now. It seems to fit over the end of the outers it came with...but just don't seem to be needed for the routing I have on my frame.
