So stripped the bike this afternoon.....when will I be able to ride again....... Had first problem after removing cranks I realised I didn't have the tool for removing the bottom bracket. After a trip to the LBS and the price of a coffee it was out.

I took my time and watched lots of YouTube and I have everything back on except the chain...just need to shorten the chain then index all the gears and I pray this is simple. I need to shorten the rear hose but may give that to the LBS as I ain't got no bleed kit or oil. I have left it until tomorrow now as I fear I will chuck it under a bus if it plays up.
I need to recheck my hollowtech BB instalation as I may have the spacers in wrong looking at the front derailleur.
It's a 68mm and I put 2 spacers on the drive side and one on the non drive but it doesn't seem to line up with with the big ring so will recheck in the morning.
Alcohol is calling so best to leave alone now.

Only noticed today, when I took the rear brake out the box it's got the ice tech pads on it (was only meant to be standard) so this obviously means my wee cross country cube can hit the big stuff now...........NOT.

Just been a short spin and gears are all good. Need to shorten the brake hoses though. I noticed the slx brakes do work and stop me but the lever is at the bars by then so not sure if this is 'modulation'!!!!or they need a bleed ( which they will get when hoses are shortened). Saved about 440gms including a whopping 200gms on the bottom bracket alone. The old one is like a doorstop.....

Brakes definately need a bleed, shimano brakes don't have much modulation in them

you could try getting most of the trapped air into your leaver by putting the brakes on and leaving them on over night, use a cable tie or elastic band to keep them on, you should notice how much firmer your brakes feel in the morning then you can carry out a leaver bleed.

Shortening the hose was surprisingly easy on my SLX brake.
Yeah id recommend doing the cable tie trick, then just use the Shimano funnel, fill it with fluid and pump the lever. You should be able to get them good doing that
I still think my old Tektro Dracos (basic hydro brakes) had a much better feel that the Shimanos. Could really control them well would love to have one more ride on them just to see what i think now!
Upgrades look good pal

To hold the brake lever over night in the hope that the air bubbles will travel towards the lever, so that you can just use the shimano funnel thing to plunge fluid into that and not have to piss around doing a full brake bleed... Would work with a cable tie or band as Euan pointed out, leave it for a few hours (preferably over night)
