Kind of two maybe even three fold this. My old Scandal is sitting looking rather dejected just a frame with a headset, so plan is to built it up focussing on lightweight see if I can get it down to about 10Kg for a fun speedy blatting machine. Next up is the road bike, when I bought it is was 8.6Kg, currently not sure my scales seem to vary every time you weigh it so ill be getting new ones next week. so starting point we shall say is 8.6Kg, try an get it close to or under 7Kg Then there me, the tubby southern softie currently with the stamina of an asthmatic weighing 13.5 stone or 85.7Kg, want to get that down cant really put a number on it as ill be putting on muscle hopefully. Plans to be drawn up. Ive signed up for the following today Tour of Cambridge Tour de Vale Wantage MTB Marathon Wallets now crying but its done, two more Ill do later in the year, so far its over 250 miles of ride

Well I have saved nearly 500gms off the bike with my recent upgrades and dropped about 4 or 5 lbs off me since the new year. 10 more lbs to go and I will be like a whippet on the trails this year.......NOT.

It's not the bike...it's the engine on it!.. Agree. But a nice bike helps you feel like an atherton even though you might look more like a halfton. If I can loose the wee bit of weight doing the turbo it's gotta help when I get back out on the trails....or I will of wasted a load of time and money.

Right, did some weighing today for the hard tail Frame with headset 1.5Kg Front wheel (no tyre/tube) 400g~ Rear wheel with cassette (no tyre/tube) 950g~ Total 2.85Kg~ Fork choices Rigid 400g~ (yeah I was shocked) Total bike weight 3.25Kg~ Fox Alps 1.25Kg Total bike weight 4.1Kg~ Few bits less I have a set of bars an a stem which will be about 300g, crankset is about 860g so 860 + 300 = 1.16Kg thats with 3 chain rings, ill only be running one but for sake of making life easy. So rigid would be 4.41Kg suspension fork 5.26Kg Other parts Rear mech - 253g Chain - 263g (un shortened) Shifter - 130g Brakes - grips - 30/110g Tyre front - 480g Maxxis crossmark death edition Tyre rear - 600g Panaracer XC Firepro Brake adaptor X2 22g BB - 260g Rotor X 2 160mm - 50g Seatpost - 300g~ seatpost clamp - 40g~ Saddle - 300g~ Total 2.84Kg~ plus brakes no idea what ill run so not included plus bolts So "rough" totals im using a rather vague set of scales at the moment Rigid 4.41Kg + 2.84Kg = 7.25Kg~ With suspension 5.26kg + 2.84Kg = 8.1Kg~ Numbers look low but hey I can hope not going with a dropper post on this keeping it light an simple Brakes im guessing around the 450g mark but not going with anything definite till its on. Ill get hold of some better scales in the week seeing as nothing is very heavy I can use some kitchen ones. Should be interesting this Finished the road bike, turns out it needs a diet its 9.5Kg, I can shave a couple hundred grams off with some easy changes, lighter pedals and seatpost takes about 300g off plus some other bits an pieces should pull it under 9Kg. Me, well im sat a about 87Kg starting kind of gently light jog each evening really hurting at the moment to be fair but needs must as they say.

Christ thats sounding light. Don't forget to add the weight of the air in the tyres it can add on a fair bit depending on the pressure you run. FWIW my SLX brakes I fitted last week were 575g

FWIW my SLX brakes I fitted last week were 575g Im going to use helium make them lighter An yeah Its sounding freakishly light, I remembered ive not added tubes or tubeless fluid. Also Rimtape im getting rid of it an using sparky tape. does exactly the same job but weighs even less (marginal gains an all that) Thanks, not sure what ill do brake wise I have some mechanicals which are pretty light or some old Clarks hydros which are very heavy. May just get some Shimanos known quantity at least.

Right, new bars on order total weight of 152g Taking the stem off my full susser as its 93g. Leaves me with a choice get another one of those for the full susser or something a bit fancy.
Anywho that means weight saved id budgeted 300g~ for the stem an bar but it comes in at a svelte 245g. Means if I went with some foam grips a pair of Ritchley ones come to 34g for the pair which is still only 279g. So that build over a proposed version means ive saved 121g on the cockpit alone. Amusingly that means that the bar stem an grips would weigh less than a 250ml can of redbull which in theory means even with a fork it should weigh just under 8Kg unless ive either forgotten something or cant weigh for toffee.
Picked up a set of digital kitchen scales so ill go out an start weighing bits an pieces. It can do up to 3Kg so ill be able to weigh every part of the bike an be super anal about it all. Sunday is IceBike show so ill be getting a proper bike scale not a wave your finger in the air an guess luggage scale also got some seminars on business ill be attending as well.

Bars arrived, and weighed, come in at 161g. muchos happious. OK 9g over but, the carbon is something of a wonder its not the normal weave for the life of me I cant tell what its meant to be, but I like it! Its kind of a marbled effect ill get a photo up later.

It's called UD it's the natural appearance of formed carbon, before the extra strengthened aesthetic weave is added...

Going the whole hog its pay day so gone a bit mad, lighter brake rotors at 85g each rather than 136g, titanium bolts for those 8g for six rather than 14g. new stem so I can get the one off the full susser, foam grips an decided against the oval ring got a Renthal 32T one instead all 35g of the thing. The foam with the carbon bar and suspension should be quite nice to be fair reduce the buzz. I should be able to get it to a rolling state over the weekend. Was eyeing up stupid things last night as well, an adjustable headset to give me another 1.5 degrees of slack on the front end make it more playful. Think that can wait!

i regret not giving the oval a try after all the reviews/feedback I've read...but next time i come to change, I'm going for it. weight saving can get reeeeeaaaalllly obsessive. Ive also started buying Ti bolts...lol However, my HT was exactly 25pounds and sometimes i felt it was a bit too light when riding on the top of the Peaks...maybe the fact it was a 29er also didn't help when i was getting some sideways winds. Too light is also not great i think.

Have to see, its me riding it so itll never be amazing! popped into the local bike store guys in there are good to me! New hope 32T ring normal round one a free hope keyring an mug plus a carbon Syncros stem so I can swap it to the full susser. Cancelled the order with the Renthal on it. Black chain ring looks way better an is only a couple of grams heavier. Should mean I can get it rideable now over the weekend which will give me a base weight so I can see if my maths is anywhere near accurate.

Well got stuck into it today nearly rideable needs some way of stopping, some grips an tyres. The smaller scales gave up on me so couldnt weigh the parts as the went on, an im using a lucky dip luggage scale till the park one arrives. Still numbers look decent 8.5Kg at the moment so more than I wanted should get some rubber on it tomorrow grips an brake furniture. going to try some mechanical ones first see how they are.

Well im budgeting around a kilo more, the forks are pretty light for suspension ones. I would easily get it under 9Kg with the solid forks on.

OK bit late but meh, tried the disc brakes today, shocking pair of old tektro IO jobbies even seasoned in the pads no bite. So looked online I have a pair of levers, but for new calipers an hose it's it's 45,cor a pair of shimano slx 765s it's 41.99. World's mad! Also still grip less tyre wise I went max is advantage up front conti vapour on the back quick a heavy pair but means I can least use the bike now.
