Cheers timbo and lovely hands hodgy We're doing the Passportes Du Soleil, so the routes are all marked/guided so covered there. We're booked in for the Friday and Sunday loops, with Saturday as a day off. Each loop is 80k over the whole day, but not sure on the split of XC & downhill, and even how aggressive the downhill sections will be. Better to be prepared than not though. As for the other stuff, I'll add it to the shopping list ...

Oh, and we're flying EasyJet who have pretty good allowances - something like 32Kg for oversize baggage. Will check on fluids as well - don't know where I'd be without my bottle of Squirt!!!

Be careful with that figure, 32kg is the max for manual handling i think, often 'sports equipment' is less, 20-25kg, then you have about 20 for a suitcase. Sounds a lot, but it all adds up quickly, when i travel with my dh bike (quite light really) im often very very close to the limit.
Im stressing this because about 2yrs back me and amateur eddy were stood in manchester airport check in (monarch), about 20mins before our flight boarding closed, desperately trying to find heavy things we could bin, close to having a nervous breakdown, eventually being charged about £170 each in excess baggage.

easyjet is 32kg. www.easyjet.com/en/sitecore/Content/FAQs/Home/preparing-to-fly/sports-equipmentlarge sports equipment. they tried to drop it but geneva flights were affectedv by so many bikers complaining they changed back. i was bang on 32k going but coming back had to take a few bits out as was a toutch over. no excess though. when i went was £70 for my bike but i guess closer to £100 now. easy jet to geneva were ace aswell. quick on and off and only about 1 1/2 hour flight.

I think Tim has more or less covered it,
Blisters are a funny thing, I don't really get them but I have some people have their holidays ruined. Having "workers" hands helps with blisters, as Tim is spade shy that prolly explains why he suffers..
If you go for tyres get hard compound ones, there is nothing worse than shredding a one week old high roller. Super tacky is not an alpine compound unless you aren't paying for your tyres
Take ibuprofen on the first few mornings, I find it helps with hand and arm ache
Also make sure you have proper cover, snow card is the best I have found
Also try to remember to not brake, pull up and pedal harder

I used snow card. Highly recommended. Another good tip is the town is ok in the evening any time for a quiet drink or meal but the fun doesn't get going until 10 ish. Cayote bar was a pisser with free shots giant screen with a wee on the go music and district and dancing later on loads different booze and great atmosphere. Me and Mick got that pissed couldn't walk straight for 2 days. Matched my riding lol great nights though.
