Ok, as most of you know I have ordered a Canyon Strive CF, this bike was meant to be delivered this week, I have just this moment received an email from Canyon stating that the bike will now not be ready until week 53 (could have swore we only had 52 weeks in a year) "due to three main component deliveries being postponed " as a gesture of good will they have offered me a set of Simano Pdm-780 pedals which I will never use.
Anyone else think it's bad practice to leave it to last day of what should have been my delivery week to inform me of this delay? Even more annoying that I called them last week to see if there was any delays and they said there wasn't.... I'm honestly spitting billets right now! So much so that I'm really considering cancelling the order and doing another custom build Commencal, the only thing stopping me is that the new Meta V4 frame also won't be avalable until the end of the year
What would you guys do?

It's a difficult one if it's definitely the bike you want, so don't cancel the order straight away until you've had a good chance to think about it.
Purely on a personal basis, it just reinforces the very poor image I have of Canyon, but I know you were always happy with your previous bike from them and the service they offered.
They need to clarify what they mean by 'week 53' though, because that could mean anything.

Surely it takes more than 1 day to sort the bikes out and ship them?
So they should have known around a week ago that it was going to be delayed!!!

Canyons legendary customer service, and support I'm afraid, hence why they've lost a lot of fans, and sales!...

You can pretty much guarantee it won't be a one week delay, do the a la carte V4 and get a BOS equipped sex machine

Euan..how long have you waited for the bike ? Would week 53 have anything to do with the number of weeks you will have to wait since you first placed the order?(apologies if this seems like a stoopid question) I know in your position I would be breathing hell fire too .. It does seem to be a bike worth waiting for though Would money have to change hands on the other bike .. If not why don't you play one against the other .. But let Canyon know how pissed you are and that if there are any further delays you will cancel immediately..might just bring things into focus for them . I would if at all possible speak to someone rather than email and get their name for future contact.

Frustrating mate but worth waiting for I reckon, it's not as if you haven't got a very nice bike already, plus the other bike you want isn't available anyway. I would talk to them though and get a firm date. .week 53 is next year! Accept the pedals and flog em on here.

Speak to 'em first and see when you can expect delivery!
Tell them to stick the pedals up their arse and give you a discount off the price..

I'm in the same boat mate as you know.
Just back from china with a day booked off end of next week and next week hoping to take receipt build and test, hadn't picked up my email until last night I was hoping for a confirmation of despatch and instead got the same week 53 delay message.
Mega pissed off. To put it into perspective, I work for a manufacturer and we would totally shit ourselves over a one week delay to our customers and would not advise them t the point they expected to be taking delivery. 14 weeks is pathetic.
It's only my knee issue that's stopping me cancelling g right away over the principle mainly, as if I need surgery over the next few weeks the rely Finn illy is not a bad thing.
I've asked which parts specifically as it seems like a cop out to me.

You waiting for the CF too Kirky? iRide - you can't tell em to 'shove em up their arses' - you ain't in Wolverhampton now mate! If I'm paying a few grand for a bike that is to be delayed after an already lengthy wait, I'd tell 'em a lot more than that At the very least, I'd want a play on the gaffers daughter

You waiting for the CF too Kirky iRide - you can't tell em to 'shove em up their arses' - you ain't in Wolverhampton now mate! I am indeed. I ordered it within a couple of hours of the launch. Prior to that I was hoping for either a basic carbon strive with improved suspension or a carbon spectral to be released with pikes. The strive cf ticks most of the boxes with the added benefit (withstanding more complicated mechanicals) of the shapeshifter. I've seen the carbon spectral and there's a pike option, not sure of the price. If it's lower I may be tempted to switch.also if I don't get a satisfactory reply to my email from canyon I may look elsewhere, possibly the below, just put off a bit by shorter guarantee and even worse service. www.radon-bikes.de/bikes/mountainbike/enduro/slide-carbon-275/slide-carbon-275-x01/

The new Commencal Meta V4 looks to be popular too, they don't have any larges left in stock in the Race. I'll wait and see what Canyon have to say in response to my email, may have to rethink my plans

Canyons legendary customer service, and support I'm afraid, hence why they've lost a lot of fans, and sales!... ^^^^^ This. Canyon pissed me off too. Depends if you REALLY want that bike. It's the end of the season anyway soon, so you'll probably be out less i'd of thought. I got fed up of waiting for the YT Capra and got something else. Maybe ask for a better gesture I've cancelled my order now, more than happy to stick with my Commencal for a while longer... Believe it or not, I actually done more riding in the winter than I have this summer

After calling them and emailing to try and sort out alternative parts to get it quicker, or a free upgrade to better wheels with no success. They seem to think its pretty acceptable and just say it's worth waiting for......
I am really close to cancelling and buying either a spicy team , pretty light similar geometry to the strive and. Can get a eagle socked out top team bike for a little more than the strive or more seriously considering.
Carbon stump jumper 29 evo for 3250 last years model , great bike but the chain stays are longer than my whyte and it's only got 15mm more rear travel, same forks as I upgraded mine from stock, would most likely suit most of the riding I do and do it easier.
Or go the whole hog and get. The carbon enduro like marmalute which is now are more justifiable (to me) price. Just concerned eit may not be as suited to the local hills and may have to keep the whyte for the moorland routes and ride the enduro for trail centres and more gnarly Xc of course with places nature stinking and bow thrown in. I most likely would be over gunned much of the time but is it better to be over gunned than under.

I had an email from them yesterday saying sorry that I had decided to cancel my order and that they hope I use them again in the future. Who knows, I may or may not but like I said i'm more than happy to stick with my Commencal for a while longer.
Did they say which parts were causing the delay?

They would not be drawn on it they said they were key parts, I went through the peripheral parts like handlebars and said keep them as I will be using my own. If its the wheels I will pay the difference for the rails or the mavics. I can only imagine its the forks and the actual shifter actuator. the dirt review was a little concerning as they said they had some faulty ones on the test bikes, maybe they've had an issue and sent them back, better to say they are late rather than faulty.
I had a further email saying the problem as occurred as they operate a just in time system, in that case their buyer needs to get the elbow.
"Is that a typo... 15 mm travel .. ? Save a wad of cash and buy fully rigid ! Lol"
Sorry I meant to say 15mm more travel, the stumpy as a 135 shock my whyte is 120mm, I have 140mm Pikes but the rear is really harsh and I can take a real battering as I try and smash through rough sections.
