I thought I would be doing myself a favour last year by buying and fitting a brand new pair of Shimano Zee brakes to my downhill rig...... I have had nowt but fecking hassle since the day I fitted the bloody things.. I am sure they were designed and made by the Devil himself.....
I have bled them countless times, but nothing seems to work... the lever is nice and firm after the initial bleed but within a few days it has gone spongy (more so the rear brake lever than the front brake lever).
I am beginning to think that air must be somehow getting into the system to cause me my grief...
I have tried every bleed procedure known to man, even tried the 5 min bubble bleed that is on Pink Bike..
think it may be time to invest in some new hydraulic hose/fittings....... have any of you lads/ladettes been using superstar replacement hose kits??? if so what is your opinion of the said parts?

Used Zee's today and didn't like them at all... Can't imagine I'd like Saints!

ive had no probs with zees davey. i even lost the little screw for the bleed port on the lever at antur and they still worked all day lol. i bought a little drip tube for the brake fluifd to go into the lever slowly with no bubbles. seems to work fine. as for brake kits not used sorry davey, cant help mate.
even just shortened mine using the little yellow clamp blocks, a stanley knife and the spares and when refitted gave a little pump and didnt need bleeding. best brakes ive used i found.

no chance of dumping them or selling them on at a reduced price.....
I will keep ya updated once I get the new hoses/fittings fitted....
should have stuck with my old Avid code fives..... they were even lighter than the infernal Zee brakes... :-)

I have never used Shimano brakes but with the way people harp on about them you reckon they were created by god himself.

There may be a reason why people harp on about them you know. The same people usually sit and flame you for any positive comments about Avid Brakes, where I have had no problems with mine but someones cousins, best friends postman had squeaky brakes this one time in 1998 so all Avid brakes are shit and Shimano Brakes are the only brake anyone should ever use. Unless of course it is the new Guides, everyone loves those

Fair comment mate. I don't think people just pick on a product though for no reason, which is what you seem to be saying? - if your brakes were working brilliantly why would you change them? if they are shoite and give you nothing but trouble you'd say so, wouldn't you?
Sounds like you've been lucky with your Avids, which is good, but there are plenty on here who have had personal experience of Avids playing up, so if you are trying to say it's rubbish, I think that's a bit wide of the mark, to be fair.
I'd never flame anyone for praising Avids, I've never had a bike with them so I can't comment - I have heard enough from people I know though that would make me not have a set of Avids, that's just common sense, if enough people whose judgement you trust tell you something isn't good you'd be daft to go ahead and buy, wouldn't you? the Guides though seem to be building a really solid rep so far so it's good to see the Avid brand turning itself around.

People are jumping on the avid guides band wagon because a couple of pros use them
End of story
The only people who complain about avids are the people who can't bleed them (me included)
I had avid code r's and they were better than my shimano zee brakes
And my hope v4s piss all over both of them.

I think what is annoying and this isn't really aimed at you or anyone here. But you read often how people have never used avid brakes and only ever used shimano but still label avid brakes as shite without using them. Like me I have never used shimano brakes. I wouldn't label them in any way. However with what I read online and the constant praise they get I would be worried about them living up to ththe expectations

still stick by recommending Deore to people, cheap strong an easy to look after.
Re the superstar kit careful when you tighten it the ali on the fittings is stupidly soft. Hose is OK though.

Another vote for Deore .. Its what i have on the cinder cone, the standard equipment, were Avid Elixar 1's.. Had nothing but issues with them from day one. Vibrations, squealing, turkey gobble.
Took them back enough times that my LBS replaced them for free.

Got the Deore on the S/S and they are excellent bits of kit, especially for the price you pay. Fitted em, cut the hoses, didn't even need bleeding and haven't touched em since, they just...work. Got XT's coming on the new bike so will be interested to see how much better they are (can't imagine them being a lot better tbf). Oh, Grant...don't let Roscoe catch you slagging off Avids, you're just jumping on the bandwaggon

The only good brakes in the whole entire world are Guides. They are actually the best, in fact. Don't you all know that?
Shimano are ok I suppose if you can't afford Hope
Hope are great but far too common these days
Avid are shit
(yes, I said Guides are the best then said Avids are shit but as Guides are being sold as SRAM, they don't count as Avids.. Ok)

I had read that on the reviews......I will endeavour to be gentle with the wrench.....LOL (not always possible for an auld fart like me...)
My 09 Commencal Meta 5.5 came with a set of XT brakes fitted... never had a problem with them until the first time I bled the system... took hours...... I have also had a few pairs of Avid's on my bikes.. juicy 3,7, elixr 5 and old style Code 5's.... never had one single problem with any of the avids....
be glad once this infernal summer time winter weather buggers off so I can get the brakes fitted..(have to work on bike in the back garden!)
