For my birthday today, (many happy returns) thanks, I had entered the Ard rock, under what may have ended up being a one man team for mtb-uk.
It was a great event, very well run and the stages were a little same but fantastic, I particulary enjoyed 2, 3 and 5 was a corker. Took a stage to get used to it, a shock to the system with the steepness of some of the chutes and was tricky with a gale blowing and really loose and sketchy on the corners. I went totally the wrong way and through a bit of a bog, but that with a very minor off after getting held up on tight switchback were my only real issues.
forgot to switch my Garmin on for the first mile or so but still shows 4215 ft of climbing the first 3 miles were a pretty steep climb so most likely would have been 4500/4600 ft climbing much of it was into a strong head wind.
i kept my rests and stoppages to a minimum and more or less joined the queue if there was one or just went when I got to the stage start gates. I put myself under pressure to finish within the supposed time limit of 5hours 15 minutes and took me 4 hours 40. However I met lots of people who had been out for 5 or 6 hours when I was only 3 hours in so I needed of worried and should have had a breather before the stages.
shame I didn't wear my go pro as the stages were great but I didn't want the voodoo, I really went for the final stage and it finished with a great steep slalom style field descent.
Finished with stage time total if 23.19 at the point I left which was with 2.5 hours left I was 80th in my category.
