Having already posted on the Dalbeattie Mabie thread that I was no longer able to commit to that ride on Saturday due to my morning being taken up ( pm sent to Euan with apologies) ..a local ride has now been organised in the afternoon to explore further trails in this forest ( it is the southernmost part of the larger Kielder forest complex ) ...also taking in the best bits from last Wednesdays ride with Colin ..who has said he is joining me ..along with Graham . I did another exploratory walk yesterday to check out some of what we hadn't ridden before ..with mixed success thus saving time going down dead ends on Saturday ..I have another short section to visit ! Took some pics while out there ...these are the bits we can ride .. Not this ..just thought it made a nice pic ..a strong wind will have all these leaves off ...  There is a bridleway on the other side of this fishing pond  And this is it ..all rideable apart from one very wet/ boggy 50m section in the middle     Then there is also this which seems to have seen some traffic recently ..why I don't know as it's in the middle of nowhere ! Better obviously in the summer ...we will be using this on Saturday but as a " down " ..  About another 2km of rideable bridleway to add to what we found last week ..with a little more to check out ! Looking like a 20 miler on some nice tasty stuff ..if you are coming BRING SOME LIGHTS JUST IN CASE !! Meet at grid ref NY 802 804 ..near Pundershaw at 12.30pm |

Good to see you are on the way back from it ..that hung around a while ..sorry to hear about Ingrid ..but obviously it won't be half as bad as man -flu ...( don't tell her I said that ! )

Oh ..by the way I have not included any of the " naughty " stuff surrounding Stonehaugh which I know one or two are familiar with ..haven't touched that at all !
Open to offers though ...
Oops ..I tell lies ..there is one teensy weensy section of the Pennine Way f.p. which I will admit to ..sssshhh
..but none of those forestry walking trails ....

Didn't plan on going this far out ..but just been on Geograph and have found these images of a bridleway that doesn't even exist on older maps ! That last bridle you were on is it from Blackaburn to crook bank school, if so I rode that a few years ago and it was soggy in the middle of Summer,

Yes ..I remember being on a night ride you led ( Pundershaw Classic ) which used that bridleway from the direction you mentioned ..it's a mixed bag really ..firm in places ..not sure if we will use it yet ..there are other options ..

Well my research is complete ..quite enjoyed this walking lark ..even if it has taken me down quite a few dead ends as far as the bike is concerned ..it was good to tick them off instead of wondering if they would work ...
Spent another couple of hours out there today..and I'm glad I did ..it involves including some naughty bits ..but they totally make the ride ..
Conditions are wet but mostly firm ..just one bridleway to discuss when we get to it as it comes late in the day and is a bit of a slog ..the easier option is about 2km of road ( the only bit all day ) ...
I can promise a varied and entertaining ride ..with quite a few new bits to surprise even Colin who was my partner in crime when we rode a version of this last week ..

Really enjoyed that ..very wet and muddy which only added to the fun ..we were doing it speedway stylee in places ! Doing a shorter version than the one myself and Colin did a little over a week ago we managed to include all of the best bits plus some more best bits I had scoped out from my scouting mission on foot this week ...we had to cut the last bit of bridleway out ( about 3km ) which was a shame as none of us have ever ridden it ..and it's good ! This was however in a very good cause as it transpired that Graham had a hot Halloween date this evening and needed to get back for the Lynx effect to kick in .. The offer of a shower from the godfathers portable bike wash and a squirt of my midge repellent ..could not deter him ..he's a man on a mission! The biggest disappointment of the day came right at the end when upon reaching the cars Russell was there .. We hadn't heard from him ( and there is no reception at the RV point ) but having waited 20 mins and him not turning up ..we had reluctantly decided to move on .. Turns out he had got lost ..either that or my directions were shite ..and didn't get there until 1.30 . He had tried to follow our tyre tracks ..and did manage to find some of the new bits ..but as quick as he is ( and he is bloody quick ) ..he was unable to catch up ..a real shame ..but we will do it again ... The lasting memory for me was upon leaving Stonehaugh the sky was on fire as crimson red as I have seen a sky ..and with a mist rising from the fields it looked really otherworldly ..just needed a few Zombies rising up to complete a really spooky Halloween. !! Thanks to the boys for a crackin afternoon ..hats off to Paul ( the godfather Jaconnelli ) CBM..( Colin Barkin Mad ) Gramish ( I've got a Lynx spray and I'm not afraid to use it ) for the usual utter bollox that is spouted on these rides ..!! Very few pics ..and right at the end ...  Don't ask ..I didn't ..haha ...   CBM ..  And again..  That's all folks .. |
