Thanks to Gaz Glynn and Dave for the brilliant company today and thanks to lovely weather! Thanks lakes you looked after us today! Respect to Glynn and Dave for making this trip! Quite a distance for theses guys
Sp It's the first time I have ever carried by bike and reckon will be sore tomoz lol I'm convinced the bike is heavier then me... I'm only small!
I recommend anyone to ride what we rode today. Truly AMAZING scenery through out the ride. The pictures like Gaz has said do not do it justice. All types of terrain covered with some near misses from myself whooops! Coming down the first descent and riding past runners they were giving us kudos for riding such rough terrain. It was knarly!
Great pictures Glynn as usual ;-) Pictures to follow
Amazing day!

Looks brilliant, but bloody hard too. Compared to Snowdon - how would you rate it? as in physically hard and grin factor? Marks out of 10 for both, please.

This was the toughest climbing I've ever done, I think we all questions our sanity at one point or another until we reach the top of Dollywagon when it was all suddenly worth the pain. Snowdon is tough but not in the same league as this, (think climbing a moving escalator the wrong way with you bike on your shoulders for a couple of hours ) but I'd do it again tomorrow As for grin factor I'm still grinning , all the down are ride-able where as I struggled with Rangers and had to walk some (steep rock switchbacks) as my skill level wasn't a match for the terrain. This wasn't easy but all do-able with a couple of dabs here and there. As a complete ride I'd give Snowdon a 7 and Helvellyn an easy 10 I'm hoping am free for the next forum ride up there!

cant really compare it to snowdon just by marks out of ten pez.it needs detailed analysis hellvellyn is a tougher push/carry as its steeper and longer and all in one go, whereas snowdon is a bit on off on off. once you get to the top of dollywagon pike, its then a long ridge rather than a pointy summit, so the highest part of the ride goes on for longer but even this is up and down with some sharp climbs. the proper descent is technical for most of it, still a good descent tho, and id say the only flowing part of the ride is right at the end where you can really get some speed, as long as theres no walkers. its a full-on mountain bike ride for various reasons. and its a close call but i think i prefer snowdon...........but im not sure . just to add as well we commented on what it would be like doing in the opposite direction, dollywagon would make a really tough descent with not much room for error and i reckon would be very difficult to get going again if and when you have to stop......or fall off. there are other route options by the way, gaz was thinking of doing one from grasmere with a full length of ridge included

* puts down pint of guinness and meat pie* Guinness gives you strength (if you believe the old adverts.....) and meat pies are full of protein........
I need to do some serious riding to get in shape for this!
