2 big ups and 2 big downs best describe this ride as we raid over the border into Scotland and back ... It's a rare chance to get a ride in with Ian Bell ..which is long overdue . A great ride with the the last drop back to the cars worth the visit all on its own Meeting at 10.00 at the white bridge by the Rowhope/Trows turnoff . O.S.Landranger NT859 115 The Cheviot Hills All welcome ...

The first long climb is from the start with a red road climb to the foot of Hazely Law..where we join Clennel Street to climb up again to the Border Ridge .... Looking back from where we have come with a good bit more climbing to do before the Scottish Border. Then it's a drop over the other side on a track that has been "improved" in recent years ...substitute that for spoilt ..but still a rapid descent to Cocklawfoot. Then a short road section to Mowhope and on to Belford ( not to be confused with the Northumberland village ) ... A sharp climb has us joining The Street..to climb once again along the Border Ridge Eventually though we undulate our way back to the start with a couple of cracking drops...the last one being the daddy of them all .. ..that's not it but it does drop steeply beyond the gate... Report & pics to follow after the ride..

A tough but great ride out with the superfit ! I was trying and failing badly to hang on to their coat tails ...as Russell & Rob were using this ( I'm sure ) as a training run for their impending trip to the Alps / Dolomites. The conditions were a lot drier than expected but with a stiff breeze all the way around ..shouldn't complain really as this helped on the main climbs . The two descents of note were silly speed ...but huge fun . Great to be out with Ian , Russell & Nick again ..and to meet and ride with Rob for the first time ..a really good bloke .. Pics to follow ...

Meet the new boss ..same as the old boss ..certainly in terms of climbing ability ..on par with Russell I would say ..and sporting a very nice Ibis . Rob Aubrook Part of the climb from Belford just to get on to the Street..I was Billy no mates at this stage as Rob & Russell were a distant memory and out of sight ..Nick was matching them on the climb ..and having chatted for 5 mins with Ian at the bottom he too soon left me for dead ...so thought I might as well take this fantastic view as a pic ..! Eventually though I did meet up again ... LtoR "hightower" Bell..Rob...Russell..and Nick the fridge...that's him raiding the larder again Back in England through that gate ...Let's have a sarnie to celebrate! Although you get no idea of the scale from this pic..trust me the drop from the top back to the cars is an absolute flyer! That's all folks..off to try and get my legs to function again ..still sore this morning..

Looks like a nice place to ride.
What's Russell getting again. By the way I see that he got another mention in a bike mag again. Mbuk did a feature on Kielder it says they were met and shown around by Russell but never mentioned him again. No photo this time either.

Russell reckoned they were complete nutters ! As for the bike ..I couldn't possibly say ..but I will take some pics when he gets it.. I know he is on here a lot as a lurker ...time to come out Russell!

The Street is still classified as a restricted byway which means that motor vehicles ARE allowed onto it ..but not between April & September ..the sign is on the Scottish side highlighting this ..so 4×4's & Trail bikes are allowed on there outside those months although I personally haven't encountered the former ..I have seen motor bikes occasionally...must be bloody mad to tackle it though ! These hills are only 45mins away from where we live and we only saw two other people walking all day ...you should come up and try them sometime ...
