My trusty Fox Flux has served me well over the last 3 years and it's about time to start thinking about changing it.
I've short listed 4, but the problem is actually finding a shop that has them in to try.
The contenders:
Fox Flux
Fox Meta
Kali Maya
And finally (pushing the budget (a lot!!):
Bell Super 2R (Star Wars edition....)
I keep thinking I should just stick with another Flux, but fancy a change.
The Bell has to option of the chin guard which is an added bonus (the fact I can pretend to be a Storm Trooper or Boba Fett is irrelevant.........honest!!)
The Kali seems to get some good reviews and is a bit different.
Other I've looked at but not sure about are:
661 Recon
& iDP M2
Any others I should consider?
If you've got any of the above how do you find the sizing?
I could order a few from CRC and then just return them, but would like to go and try one on somewhere....

Thanks for the reply Gaz. Yeah, I thought the Meta looked quite big - will pop into Swinno's and have a look - as I have a small'ish head I'll probably look really stupid!
Hadn't looked at the ISX - nice looking lid!

There was a thread recently on this subject. I was buying a helmet not so long ago...this is what I found. I was dead set on the Bell, but it just doesn't fit my skull...M was digging and hurting, L was too big...the guy on the shop said he has the same issue. After trying and testing various, the POC Tectal was by far the most comfortable but I looked a bit "special" and my colleagues took their time to make a lot of fun out of that! Ended up with the Cratoni Alltrack and I couldn't be happier. Great helmet in a lot of ways and I think it looks quite nice when on...came accross it through a reccomendation here. Reviews online are also great. My mate who never wore an helmet all his life, bought one after seeing mine...German engineering at its best! www.chainreactioncycles.com/cratoni-alltrack-helmet-2016/rp-prod129083mtb-uk.co.uk/thread/3635/helmets

Another question - with the Bell is it worth getting the MIPS version? Just noticed Tweeks have the small 2015 non-MIPs for £49.99 or 2015 MIPS for £59.99

For a tenner i would say yes...usually is a lot more than that. However I'm not convinced yet of the MIPS (after reading a lot about it)...i also wonder if it adds more heat and something to get damaged quickly.

Tried a Meta in cycle surgery at lunch time - it's frikin' huge! Nice comfortable fit but looks about 8 sizes too big.
Looked at the Giro Feature too - seemed nice, but didn't have my size to try.
Also looked at a couple of MIPS equipped lids - I'm not convinced. I wonder how much force it takes to break the connection and rotate the liner? would snagging on a branch be enough? and if so is it game over and time for a new lid?

Yes...it is huuuuge...should have told you that...and it looks like you have a huge duck on the top of your head. MIPS...thats what i thought as well. Mate...order a few from CRC and choose...if you order the Cratoni, i doubt you will go elsewhere...i could almost make a bet with you...they also have a red colour btw! lol TLD A1 is also one that people say its very comfy but hot...good bargains on this one.

I'm not convinced about the MIPS either - another gimmick to fleece us? that's another subject for another day, I suppose.
I can only endorse the Bell mate. I did it by buying the 'normal' Bell 2 on offer for 48 quid (Tweeks) and then the chin bar after for 50 - that way you are getting a 135 quid lid for under a 100!
It fits me really well (medium) and the on/off of the chin bar is really well thought out and dead easy. Best of both worlds. If you wanted to try it on I'm out Satdee morning with EuroBob?
Edit - as I'm far from a D-hilliard, it's just really good to have the option of the full face for days in BPW etc. I just pop the chin bar in the Osprey and if there is anything I'm unsure of - it's a 30 second job to have that bit of extra insurance. There are better lids I'm sure (ie the Cratoni looks nice that G has) but it's unique in the chin bar thang.

Cheers Pez, unfortunately we're off on our jollydays Saturday otherwise I'd have tried to wangle a ride.
Yeah it works out stupidly cheap - might just order the small and see if it fits - nothing ventured, nothing gained and all that (and free returns are a bonus).
I'm off for a blast around the Dog tonight with a few lads from work - might see what lids they're packing and have a nosey.

Cheers Pez. Will sort a ride out when I get back. Just popped an order in for one of these to try for size: If it fit's it'll match the new bike quite nicely.... Oh no I'm becoming a bike-tart!!! HELP!!!!

That's the colour I wanted Chris but they were doing deals on the one I had so went for it. Nice colour that is.
Malamute - we were supposed to be having a bimble and a bit of an explore that day, never took it with me - my face wished I had!

If the S fits you...blimey, you must have a tiny head! Lol The medium was tiny already! Great looking helmet that Bell...it really is, specially the one with the racing stripe!? Lol

Head is around 55/56cm. My kart racing crash helmet was a small and my fox flux is S/M and is adjusted up a fair bit. Hopefully it'll fit.

Fingers crossed...for me it was the actual shape of the helmet that was digging on my head and hurting...totally didn't fit my skull and made me realise that helmets are in fact all different. First tart mistake...never match the kit to the bike in case you change the bike later...I've made that mistake too! Lol

So the Bell turned up today - lovely looking and well made helmet - slightly too small, head not quite touching the top of the helmet. If the helmet was a few mm bigger it would be perfect.
Will send this and the chin guard back and keep searching.

That's what happened to me...the helmet was digging on both sides of my head but the top couldn't even touch it...then the next size was huge!

Max is ideally around £60. Took a punt on the Bell as for £100 it would have been a bargain.

Have you bought a new helmet?
Just asking because I've got a brand new Fox Flux for sale. Never been used!
