Confused ? Then let me explain ... I've been wanting to do a ride locally for ages where I would start riding in the dark and within the ride see the dawn then the sunrise ... I had hoped to do this over the course of the last week ..but every time I looked out the window ( while up for my very early morning loo visit ) it's been foggy! I had high hopes for this morning so had everything ready packed into the car last night. Knowing that nobody else would join me ( I didn't even ask !) I wanted a route that wasn't technical in any way but would offer superb views ...and fortunately I happen to have just such a route 9 miles up the valley in which I live ..The Lakeside Way on Kielder Water ..a shared trail which circumnavigates the whole of the Reservoir ..delving into every nook & cranny ..27miles in length ! Motorway stuff in terms of mountain biking but it does catch a lot of folk ( who hire bikes) out who think it's an easy pootle as it's very undulating . So while the majority of you lads & lasses were still dreaming sweet dreams I was turning the cranks at 5.30am. I started at Lewisburn ..over the suspension bridge and almost immediately cacked me nacks as my lights picked out two very large sets of eyes ..which belonged to two roe deer above me in the trees ...note to self ..fkn calm down or you will have a heart attack ..so I did and immediately started to enjoy myself ... Enough waffle ..time for the pics .. The start at Lewisburn Now part of the Lakeside Way this viaduct carried rail passengers & goods back in the day crossing over the North Tyne River Hardly a ripple on the lake

Whickhope Anchorage The story of Freya & Robin .. Freya's gaff... Robins Hut where I was earlier in the ride is bang opposite ..this is it magnified x 8. The ferry moored at Leaplish The log cabin to the far right used to be owned by my family ( I wasn't part of the business) ..from which they hired motor boats and did windsurfing / kayaking / sailing ..hire & tuition .25 years ago I used to spend my weekends manning a high powered rescue boat...oh what fun we had ...!!

Awesome, where's the golden hut? (Edit, just seen it lol) That is some ride for an early run and I reckon it would be pretty spooky out there on your own. We went the other way round which i reckon is easier but you're right about it being undulating. The number of people I saw who looked shattered on hire bikes was funny.
How long did it take you?

I was out in total 2hrs 55mins ...that's including all the stops for pics .. The first part of the ride was quicker when it was still dark ..ha! I almost always ride it anti -clockwise but did it clockwise thinking that I would see the sun come up as I was riding towards it ..but didn't actually see it until just after turning towards Tower Knowe at the other end of the Dam Wall . Great start to the day though ..

Cracking pics and kudos to getting up that early for a ride, its actually the thought of getting up whats off putting but once you drag yourself up its all good. Its a good leisurely ride the lakeside way and it is also amusing the look on peoples faces who think its a breeze until they are half way round lol. Oh btw I walked to buckshott fell and back this morning, couldnt help my self....

Some awesome photos there...and I'm not even keen on photography... And i loved those benches/sculptures...really cool and great design. I guess i should try giving another go at night rides, now that i have two decent ones.

Fair play hodgy, don't think I've been up at that time since the kids started sleeping through the night (thats ages ago). I think I'm still a bit of a kid myself as I don't go to bed till late and dont want to get up on a morning.
