So I was walking my dog in the early hours last week and got bitten by something. Originally i thought it was a wasp but then possibly a spider as I walk through loads of cobwebs in the woods. Anyway, it really hurt but didn't turn into anything, until 5 days later, i started to get a rash and then it doubled in size to cover half my arm over night. Went to the doctors this morning and he is testing me for Lymes as it has presented itself in the right kind of way. When i mountain bike I carry tick removers and to be fair I didn't see it as it was pitch black (6am). Apparently it can be carried on other insects too, which i didn't know! Hoping to get results Friday but even then Lymes can stay hidden for a month before it can be detected so will need to go again. Currently on 4 weeks of anti-biotics. On a positive note, I had a great 20 miler last night in cracking speed, so not got any of the other symptoms yet!!

Fingers crossed for you Jimbo, did you actually find and remove one? It doesn't sound like you did.
Rather worryingly I never knew about them at all until the last couple of years,
Now I have a good check but worry that during a ride they may end up ground in with all mud on my legs which gradually may get brushed off so the tick could have done its damage and then I brush it away without knowingly buy leave its gob and poison stuck in my leg.
Spent a good while wading through waist high grass this morning, totally encrusted in mud, with bits of vegetation stuck in, impossible to see what lose may be on the legs. I'm hoping they are obvious when you have them!

Better safe than sorry ..hope all works out well and your fears are unfounded .. One thing I would say is that you are not supposed to feel anything when a tick attaches itself as it injects a form of anesthetic to disguise it's prescence ...

If it was a tick it must have been as I rubbed my arm prior to the anesthetic stuff went in. I reckon it was something different but no idea really as it was dark. Hope to know more by Friday

I had one sucking on my leg for a good 16 hours. Lucky I was but made me realise that we really need to check ourselves after the rides. Good luck.

The rash has grown but a lot less angry so it looks as if the antibiotics are working.

In the last couple of years I've had at least 4 ticks, I've never felt them bite and just found them post ride. They were incredibly small as they hadnt started feeding in earnest as they swell up with your blood and are easier to spot. I removed them with a removal tool but still not that easy to do as they were small. They were all on my lower legs. It worries me that they would be really difficult to spot if they had got to my backside or the more hairy parts of my body. I can't emphasise how small they were and difficult to spot so do make a thorough check after every ride. Annoyingly I seem to be the only one in our riding group who gets them! Thankfully had no symptoms but each time I get a prolonged cold or aches I do wonder!!!!
