ill need to look at details when peeps are interested as gone through alpine elements before and it was mint but a tad expensive. a shared chellet with someone cooking at night and breaky could save a shit load. cheap meals with a massive plate of pasta and sauce or a lasag or sommat like that. eat out a few nights and loads of supermarket beers. would be a pisser.

i reckon flying with bikes, stay somewhere cheap and spends around £600 top end all in. driving isnt any cheaper to be honest as its only about £100 to fly and £75 to take bike. if you shared fuel 3 ways might work out cheaper but also alot of work compared to a 1 3/4 hour flight.

The road trip is all part of the holiday IMO, the tunnel got closed cos of a fire or somat when we went, ended up sharing the carpark with all the cars returning from classic LeMans and having a BBQ in the holding car park and had to catch the ferry back.

Just get paranoid the bikes wouldn't make it! when we went there was a backlog of bikes that had missed the flight back due to over booking at there end. they gave you a form saying your bike would be back next day and courriered to your door in next 2 days. mine made it but my mates didnt. came 2 days later all fine. this was a small incident due to over booking. when i used a bike bag my rear mech took a bash and i had to bend it slightly back and set up. my mates was in a bike box and was mint. no probs at all. my crc bag was padded but soft so not much safety.

I'll be driving in either a van or pick up truck, both can take 3 bikes, 3 people and gear

I live in Lincoln, if we can get another it will bring the price down loads, I have a mate (mogwai off here) that could be up for it. If we get a number definitely up for it we can look into renting a minibus or something huge

yeah. that and a box trailer would be sweet. starting to get a plan together now. we could share the driving then save one doing it all.

I have started planning something similar with my mates, the plan for us is to get names down and work out can hire, fuel and tolls and then split the cost and collect money straight away, hopefully under £100 each if enough commit. But then as you have money off people straight away they are less likely to back out and off they do back out the fuel money is already collected so the cost isn't raised and made unaffordable for others. Nearer the time collect for accommodation and then the rest is up to the individual

We had four in a van and did 2 hr stints each, so everyone drove in France, worked out well cos theres loads of places to stop off on the way for a piss and bite to eat.
