First ride out for a few weeks due to a lingering cold. Just when I think I've seen the worst of it low and behold it returns with a vengeance. still feeling a little chesty so decided just to try a local bimble around the hills around gambled on moors, above Hapton, on the hard tail, the aim was to test my lungs, my legs and at the same time explore a few new trails. I found a few hidden gems within half an hour of my house in an area I just didn't know about until recently after living so close for the last 8 years. some of the climbs were a slog in the mud with narrow up grippy tyres. Much wheel spinning and sideways skidding made for some scary but fun moments. ended up coming down the famous fairy steps, the first section was very muddy and the steps themselves were running as a shallow river bed. With the sloppy rocks and drops it was a it too tricky for me on the hardtail at times and to my embarrassment I walked the bike down a few sections. I'm looking forward to hitting it harder on the enduro after some dry weather. The canyon (gunner style shot) One of the many drop offs. I didn't want to risk the canyon frame on this one. More fairy steps.

I do use strava pal when I remember to pack it or start it tracking, not all of the time but I like to if I'm looking at different places so I can check out the map afterwards and look at alternatives. I will purposefully go 50metres or so down tracks that im curious about so when i check it will show as a spike and then I can see it the trail goes. I did a fair bit of that today as the area is an hot spot for motor cross guys so there are trails shooting off all over the place some of which wouldn't look at of place on the red bull extreme channel. I spotted an area from a distance that appeared to have some good looking sections which I now know how to work into a route, the picture below shows it but it was a bit misty so the trails are a little tricky to pick out.

I bet it's a hoot coming down the fairy steps but they do look a wee bit slippery.

A bit too slippy for me today with mud caked narrow ardents on.

Love that type of riding....looks great. Careful though posting up tasty pics like that ..it might give the health and safety boys in your local council ideas about " improving" it .....that reminds me ..never did find out what happened in Derbyshire ....
