finally took on the spd challenge this morning, the trip to Sherwood pines was called off so I just did the local xc loop on me own.it felt really alien to start with and I had a few practice unclippings just to get used to it but once I`d done a couple of miles they felt ok. I only had one `oh sheeeeeet` moment coming down this chute.

it`s far steeper than it looks and the only thing between you and the railway line is a pond.damp leaves on loose gravel don`t aid braking effort.the silver birch in the bottom right is `roundies tree`.first time I took him on this ride he parted company with his bike and slammed chest on into the tree, literally becoming a tree hugger. he soldiered on but couldn`t get out of bed the morning after we`ve had a drop of rain the last few days so gloopy mud covered in wet leaves either side of a stream crossing was never going to be easy.absolutely no traction trying to climb out of the stream but managed to unclip and bail out.

the joy of wearing specs full time on a muddy ride.

bit of a gunner shot.

lining up for a run down through the woods,a wary of threading it through the trees clipped in.

looking back down gypsy lane, once again leaf covered mud,but this time with the added bonus of shiny, wet, round rocks...well slippy.

despite the shitty conditions it was still a good 10 miler. struggled to clip in on the second half of the ride but when I took the five tens off later the cleats were almost totally clogged with mud so I guess the answer is not to walk through any next ride I`ve not fallen in love with the spd`s but neither am I going to bin them after just this ride.on the other hand I`m 100% pleased with the new urge all mountain helmet.
you could tell I`d been getting rad and gnar this morning.

Since the loggers finished in endor the guys have built some big doubles and gap jumps,I don't go near em. There's a few of the old ones but I only did one on the way through, far too slippy for the first time on spd's just let me know when you fancy a pootle.

Looks like a good morning, the more mud on your face the better the ride.
Nice looking bike by the way, what is it!

Muddy rides are the best! Get back to the car feeling you've sufficiently smashed all the trails! Some of those photos looks epic fun to ride though!

It's a c and b seen, excellent light, good battery life but let down slightly by poor quality wiring.every bit of wire that goes into either the lights (ive got 2) or connectors has cracked so I've had to put extra tape and tiny zip ties on to reinforce the joints.

I'm coming out here...as a MTB rider who doesn't enjoy the mud. A bit skiddy - ok good fun, but the axle deep shoite you can keep. Give me dusty, dry trails any day. Sorry.

I`m just happy to get out in most conditions,it`s the half day it takes to clean the bike and riding gear that gets on my tits.

Exactly this Cogger - I love the ride when out, no matter what the conditions but the last one I did on the Cannock off piste took me so long to sort out the bike then wash all the kit - massive PITA. I miss coming home on a dusty bike. I should have been born in California or Spain.
