I need a dropper for my Orange 5 which has tabs for external routing so I'll use those rather than start drilling the frame. I've got a couple of questions re the Thomson at £244 and Reverb at £190 from CRC. Neither are included in the current GIFT10 promo BTW Anyone know anywhere reliable cheaper?
Is the Thomson worth the extra dosh? It looks strong+ well made, is supposed to need less servicing (?) I suspect a well looked after cable could give less trouble than hydraulic actuation. The Thom comes with 2 different length cables.
Will a standard reverb mount straight onto the bike without any bleeding, cable cutting and faffing? Has anyone damaged their control tube and is it prone to needing bleeding eg after bike has been laid down in the car. What's involved in a routine service?
I'm intending taking off my front shifter so that will free my bars left side. I'd prefer the dropper control underneath the bars so I presume that will mean using a RIGHT handed one (?)
As ever your collective wise guidance will be carefully considered.

Used a Reverb on my Five and never needed to bleed it, never needed to shorten the hose either. If you want to mount it on the underside of the left of the bar, then you will need a right hand trigger.

Depends on your frame size and routing if it will need bleeding or not, I cut mine and managed to fook it up, just DON'T depress the lever when you get it off or it will need a bleed, although the bleed kits are relatively cheap and it may need doing at some point i spose. Theres some good How-to's on Youtube.

Couple of quid cheaper at Merlins and the cashback through TCB is 1% better. Even if it did need bleeding it really is very simple. (Make sure it comes with a bleed kit) Don't know anything about the Thomson but I had a cable operated KS Supernatural and that was very good but not a patch on the Reverb.

Well me and reverbs just don't get on. Mine is currently on the way back to Germany for a further warranty problem. I wouldn't touch a reverb again with a feckin barge-pole.

Jeez moto how many have you had? (reverbs I mean)
What happened this time?
I forgot to add the cost of the bleed kit into the price. It doesn't look much for £30 does it? ( I suppose the bleed kit will also do Avid brakes...?)
£190 + £30 is getting closer to the 244 of the Thomo

They list it separately for £34 and don't mention it in the blurb but I'll be cheeky and ask. CRC who are nearly the same price state that it's not included.

If you read the recent reviews people mention the bleed kit and collar etc being shipped with it.

Exactly the same as first time, just all of a sudden won't hold air. I'm giving up on them, tbh for the amount of times I use one around Cannock, just not worth the hassle. Went round today with me normal post in and didn't miss the dropper one bit. Nice to have one rather than not but like I said, we just don't get on and I'm sick of them failing.

Thanks all. I spoke to Merlin today who said they include the bleed kit ( as per Will's comment) so I ordered straight away from the bloke who told me that. And of course I recorded his name!
(SIDE STORY) Ten minutes later I got about 10 emails from Merlin including one confirming my order, with no address to a bloke with a different name to me. I rung them and was told they were having a IT glitch and not to worry it would be sorted. Oh yeah, no problem! 10 days before Xmas A "business like" email later soon fettled that. (I think)
The ten quid kits shown by Chris (post above) look a lot more reasonable to me. It shows how they all take the piss when they get chance. I just can't see where £30 plus comes from.
Bugger me, I just logged onto CRC and they are now included in their latest 10% off sale!
Today I feel like Michael Cain fighting the Zulus at Rourkes Drift. You shoot the one coming in the window, then another coming in the door... Then another big one comes in through the roof!

Oh aye. Forgot to mention that whilst driving down to my LBS for some bits I heard a funny hissing noise...
Then I got a smell of coke....
Then I got a wet leg from a holed can of coke in the passenger footwell pissing from a hole in it's side. I had to put up with this for a couple of minutes as the bloody thing was just out of reach and inevitably traffic all around me appeared from nowhere.
Just as I was able to pull over and catch it the coke ran out so I didn't even get a swig.

Mine went like this after about 18 months. I did consider sending it back to bike discount.de for a warranty claim but guessed it was just a worn seal. So I bought a basic seal kit and tools from ebay which cost me about 15 quid in total and serviced it myself. It was piss easy and is now working fine again and holding air

I've got 3 reverbs, one on the 5, one on the on-one, and one off the Cotic, to go on my Tusker... Never had any issues, never had to bleed, never had to add air... Must be lucky...

I had a Thompson last year but it got nicked with my bike. Got a reverb on the current bike. I prefer the reverbs trigger over the thompsons lever but the thompson post felt so much better, A lot more solid and I had more confidence in it. The reverb gave up on a ride the other day and when I got it home it started working again so I've got to rip that out and try and figure out what went wrong. If I had the choice I'd go for the Thompson everytime.
