Well it appears that I've entered my first race.......
Signed up for the Novice/First Timer category.
Looks like it's 2 laps of a 5k course so I should manage it lol.
No route info yet but looking back on youtube doesn't look too bad over the last couple of years.
So has anyone else entered?

I've got a skills lesson to pay for. I'd have a go at somewhere I didn't know, but not Cannock.

Id love to enter, but does anyone know the difference in ability between first timers and enthusiastic males? And is it a real race? Ive done a couple of cross country events but they were 'just for fun' events so no real competitive timings

The route for first timers is shorter.

I defo won't be challenging for a podium (regardless of lack of lycra). Doing it purely for fun and the experience.

Great race today. Really enjoyed it despite the gloopy mud lol. Was aiming for 1 hour, and with the conditions wasn't entirely sure I was going to do it. Finished in around 55 minutes which was pleased with. Looking forward to the next one!

Some people were taking it far too serious. Warming up on a road bike on roller. Gazeebos with massive tool chests.
I took my bike off the roof, rode it round the car park to check brakes and gears and then dropped the tyre pressures a tad - job done!

Mr Motozulu and I dropped by to see a bit of racing. We got there just in time to see the end of a woman's race I must admit, I was a bit surprised at how little there was going on. At last years Summer Classic there were stalls selling stuff and stuff happening all over the campsite. It was a brilliant atmosphere. All we saw today was a car selling coffee and a burger stall. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, I was just surprised really. Was this your first race? Will you be entering the Summer Classic?

Yes was my first race. Will be there for the Summer Classic. Think there were some 'conservation issues' this weekend, weren't able to use a tanoy system and some areas where off limits due to a rare nesting bird or something.

Yes, well done mate and we popped up to see if we could spot you, which would have been quite some feat really as we haven't a clue what you look like, so unless you were racing with a massive 'I am Dirk off MTB-UK' sign on you, it was a bit of a waste of time really . I was surprised at how 'small' the event was too, compared to the summer one which is really busy, with good stalls, freebies etc. By the way, me and Jay are on about going down to Bird bikes together now - so I'll let you know when we are going just in case you fancy it. It will be a midweek thing though.
