I'm thinking of fitting some 140mm travel forks to my 2013 Giant Trance X2 which currently has 120mm fitted. Now I know the X1 came with 120mm-140mm Talas forks fitted so hopefully it won't total ruin the feel of the bike but am I actually going to be able to tell and what difference am I likely to notice? I've currently got 2013 120mm 32 Fox Evo's fitted so I'm also open to suggestion on what to replace them with.(cheaper the better ) cheers Gaz

I had this quandary with my rz120, wanted to upgrade to 140s, wasn't sure the frame would take it (who am I kidding, it probably would) so ended up buying a new frame with 160 travel and building a complete new bike Sorry not helpful I know, just thought I'd share. This may help though.

well i changed my rockrider front from 120 to 140, it was a bit weird at first and was a bit light on the front end, but a longer stem changed that now, i love the longer forks, and got used to the lighter front end on the climbs.

i don't see any real issues... manufacturer will probably play it safe, and see 120 only... you'll loos a bit of geometry...

you'll loos a bit of geometry... This is the bit I'm interested in. Will it make it 'slacker' and does slacker mean it will be a bit more stable down hill. It can get a bit (a lot!) twitchy when I'm pushing it down fast loose downhill sections

It can get a bit (a lot!) twitchy when I'm pushing it down fast loose downhill sections Technically yes, it'll make the wheelbase longer (only marginally) which will give stability at higher speeds, also the direction of impact for the fork will be slightly reduced (so yes, slacker) which means the fork will do a better job of absorbing impacts. Trade-off is a raised BB height which will raise both the centre of gravity on the bike and yourself which will have an adverse effect of turning ability (on faster turns, toodling around the car park won't change). So yeah, hopefully all adds up and makes sense.

You will raise the front end and not just the bb. I did this and didnt like it. Bike frames with longer forks are designed that way and the front end wont be as high as one with longer forks bodged on. Might work on some bikes like, doesn't on a reign x though. It may also slacken the seat tube and make it horrible to climb. As I say frame geometry is designed around a certain fork length. I know there are def people who have put longer forks on with success though. Might be worth trying first of someone will lend you their fork

How about buying spme forks with the uturn facility. Dont know if you can still get them but iv got some rockshox tora uturn, where you can adjust the travel from 120-100. Maybe ypu can get forks that will adjust from 140-120

Hi Gaz If you remember I changed from 120mm rebas to 140mm pikes on my t129. It dramatically improved it on the downs and anything else where the rebas got a bit noodly before like going through rocks and roots.
The front end may feel a little twitcher when climbing so you would just need to weight it a little more.
Pikes are very good for the money, you should be able to egg from around 450£ if not get some revelations, light and strong, better than most of the fox stuff at much lower prices. Bike discount.

Looking around at the sales I found these which would work out at £270 for some 140mm revelations. Worth the risk if they don't work out I'm sure you could sell them on without losing too much.

These may be a good bet, 150m m to 120mm dual position so you should be as you were on the climbs and much more aggro ready than your current forks. With the nicer looking black stanchions. I had these previously on a cube stereo and they were very good the shortening of the fork was great for long climbs like those up from hurstwood. www.bike-discount.de/en/buy/rock-shox-revelation-rl-26-dpa-150-tapered-ml15-black-405797/wg_id-5225Tapered and in stock this time For another 100 though the rct3 are supposed to be a better fork, around 150gm lighter as well.
