Guys, Thinking ahead over the next 6 months I'd like to start saving for a full susser. Ideally looking below £1k, but could possibly creep up a couple of £100. Riding consists of Trail Centres, Fire Roads and a fair bit of Off-Piste stuff. Have narrowed my current choice to 3 bikes: Boardman Team FS 650B (£999.99 - but potentially £800'ish with discounts) Giant Stance 650B (£999.99) Canyon Nerve 6.0 AL 650B (£1199.99) I really like the look of the Canyon but can't help but think the Boardman is better VFM. Not sure about the Giant as it's relatively new and reviews are a bit sparse, and those that are available aren't too sure about the rear suspension set up and seems to have the lowest spec of the 3. I have no preference over Shimano or SRAM - current Carrera Fury is all SRAM kit (bar the Suntour Forks...) Another plus for me (I think) is that the rear shock on the Boardman is up out of the way. Weight wise the Canyon is the lightest (sub 13kg - just!) with both the Boardmand and Giant tipping 14kg. I'm sure that with a couple of carefull upgrades the Boardman could be brought down in weight. So what do you guys think? Are there any others that I should consider?

Have a look at vitus bikes, exclusively to crc, this is the sort of thing I'd be looking at ...http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/vitus-bikes-escarpe-290-suspension-bike-2014/rp-prod107041

Boardman is a bargain at that price but I'm not a fan of sram. What the difference between the stance and the trance giant bikes anyone know.

I would say the Giant out of that lot although the fork looks weak, a good frame though and that's what's important, other stuff could be upgraded over time, Canyon's you can't get a shot of before hand unless you know someone that has one, Boardman get good write up's but i don't like the look of them, your choice though mate, you could get a lot more bang for your buck on the 2nd hand market

Buy my Nukeproof Mega. Better spec than those listed above and will have lots of brand new zero ride old parts on there. Assuming you want a size small.

Second hand would probably be a good shout. Do like the Nukeproof mega. Will just be a case of finding one in good enough condition though.
New appeals due to warranty etc.

Mine is in very good condition, everything gets looked after and cleaned down after every ride. As I say it would come with loads of zero ride old parts too.

Might see about getting a test ride on the Giant from Swinnos. And will see if anyone would be willing to let me have a play on Canyon or Boardman and Nukeproof.

Boardmans are cracking bikes, o loved my two, and regretted getting rid of my team fs for a carbon stumpy! Boardman was as good if not better.

Love the look of that Giant, really nice frame IMO. Basic spec lets it down but you're obviously not going to find a top end full suss brand new for under 1k! I'd be budgeting in a new stem, crankset and saddle with the Giant, then upgrade the rest if/when it breaks / wears out
Used would definitely be the best option though for VFM. 1K would get you something really nice

Personally, I'd go for the Canyon if you can stretch. It's a hell of a lot of bike for the money!

I had the 2011 canyon nerve al9.0. If it hadn't got nicked I'd still have it now. Cracking bike and superb spec for the cash. Absolutely loved it. I'd definitely go with the canyon.

Personally, I'd go for the Canyon if you can stretch. It's a hell of a lot of bike for the money! As long as you are happy dealing with Germany if anything fecks up! Bear in mind that any warranty issues and you have to send back to the Motherland - can be a ball ache.

To be honest would prefer new as at least the frame is warrantied if there are any problems.

Yeah good reduction at the moment - with British Cycling and discounted vouchers through work on to of the 15% I could get the Team FS for about £720. Just don't have the cash at the moment with it being after Christmas and paying to take the Wife & Kids to Disney World over Easter!
