So I've decided, rather than buy a new HT or a fatty when I've got a perfectly good frame in the garage, to revamp and convert the Merida back from SS to HT.
My question is...the Merida was a £500 jobbie so came with the cheapest components possible. As I'm revamping I thought I'd look at new BB and cranks.
Now I am a total noob at this so the current set up is Shimano cranks and octalink BB - is it just a straight swap for me to convert to Hollowtech II? as the Chief is Hollowtech I thought I'd standardise em for ease of servicing etc.
Ta.

If it's anything like my GT Agressor frame then yes it will be a straight swap, I changed that from octalink to HT2

Cheers mate - I might get the LBS to reface the shell and do it for me - I'm spending a grand on bits with him so I'll negotiate. I'd rather let the pro's do it on reflection rather than feck it up myself.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm normally ok at fettling stuff myself but for such a major component of the bike I'd rather be sure. It's the refacing and checking the threads I'm unsure about.

No mate - I'm having a cheeky Ti Lev dropper as well for the Chief.

If I go ahead, it'll be about £650 on the Merida, rest on the dropper (give or take)

It's almost certainly going to be the carbon 456 - I would have loved the steel, much better equipped, if only they hadn't ruined it with the stupid seat post size - I lyk droppers and it's important to me that I can interchange easily. I'm going to have to sell the SS though, which will be a bit of a wrench.

You can be a very hurtful person, young Parker You're not wrong though, I'm not expecting to be able to fund much with the proceeds - need the room more than anything else.

In all honesty keep it... An Enduro machine it isn't.... But makes an excellent quick blast SS for the dog on a summers evening...
