I had one on the back of my new bike, it's a good fast rolling tyre but really struggles for traction in the current muddy conditions. I've taken mines off for the winter and replaced it with a High Roller 2.

I love my Ardents!.. Great all year tyre!.. Stick in any form of gloop and it's like bamby on ice, one of my other mates also ditched his as it was useless on the off piest stuff at the tweed valley

Doesn't sound too bad for XC riding though?

Doesn't sound too bad for XC riding though? For XC and Trail riding i'd say it would be a good tyre just so long as your route isn't too muddy, like I say, it's a fast rolling tyre and grips well on dry to wet conditions.

Same here ..Ardent on the back .. Just returned from a short 2hr loop that had thick gloopy mud under the tree cover , snow , ice frozen puddles ..on the fire road sections and it didn't flicker.

Having said that and at the risk of you thinking I have completely lost my marbles ...there are different types of mud ..some more slippery than others !
Ps ..I lost my marbles years ago...

i don't have any difficulties in the Mud... perhaps try lowering the pressure.. I run between 25 and 30 on the rear. By all means, you are welcome to come up here and try them in the Tweed valley at this time of year, i'm guessing that you'd soon regret it though.

2.25 Ardent is spot on as a fastish rear tyre that still grips. Drop something like a Minion DHF/DHR2 or a HR2 on the front and you'll be laughing.
