The Forestry Commission are saying the closures will be for several weeks..
That means that with Bomb Hole, High Voltage and Zig Zak all closed, you might aswell not bother with FtD..

They have put a divert I. So you can still get to do the monkey , think I'm going to have to push my self to do 2 laps of the donkey when it's open again just to see how I stand with my finesse level ..

I'm not ready for 2 laps of the Donkey yet, that's what I've got to work towards though, as a minimum really.

Just out of curiosity ..and because I dont know the trails at all .. What makes 2 laps of the Monkey or the Donkey hard? Is it distance ..technicality ..climbing or a combination of them all ?

2 laps is getting on for 30 miles by the time I've ridden there and back, there are some horrible climbs as well. Monkey more technical than Dog, Dog more fun but together it's a good challenge.

I'll disagree with the above.. Follow the Dog is plain boring until the last mile or so!
The Monkey is hard work and again, the best bits are at the end. Having said that, there are bits inbetween the start and the end to keep you entertained.. Unlike the Dog!
The Dog being good for fitness is debatable. There's only one real climb on it. The Monkey is maybe 50-60% climbing!?
Doing Follow the Dog & the Monkey Trail (Donkey) together is only about 12 miles. You start on the Dog (warm up) divert onto the Monkey (workout) and finish up on the Dog again (warm down)..
It's very rare I go on either trail alone because I just get a bit bored.. It's great fun in a group though!

I've only been once and loved it. Hard work but bloody good!
I like to go somewhere where there are signs telling me which way to go though unless I'm with someone who has a fancy Garmin!
If I went to the Peaks by myself, you'd probably never see me again.. I get lost on me way to work because a road is closed!

Me and Ant were saying that on Tuesday - we reckoned we could have done it with loads of stops and taking most of the day - the real trick is to do it twice and at the same pace - that is deffo beyond me right now, if ever!

I deffo couldn't do 2 laps of the donkey. Not tried 2 of the dog and one of the donkey kills me. But i ride flat out 100% of the time. That's what keeps it interesting for me. I suppose i could try pottling around to see if i can cope with the distance. Taking my foot off the gas is hard to do though. I couldn't do the Donkey flat-out. The Dog, yeah but I'd be knackered afterwards! Going for twice around the Monkey at some point this week.
