I've been ordered to do an introduction, so here I am.
I'm 44 and have been a fat git for about 25 years, too many beers, takeaways and lack of exercise had me ballooning up to 28.5 stone (I'm 6ft 7").
I got myself a Rockhopper Pro in July 2013 with the intention of doing some enjoyable exercise and gradually built up my ride distances and intervals.
My biggest worry was finding a bike strong enough to take my weight, most bikes have a limit of around 300lb, I was 400ish. But to be fair, apart from having a custom rear wheel made my Rockhopper has been pretty much unstoppable except for a few groupset items that you'd expect to wear out over time.
My bike has clicked over about 2500 miles in total, I've been doing a 12 mile commute most days for about the last 6 months.
Total weight loss is around 5 stone, I'm about half way where I want to be, so I'll be increasing my rides, mixing up some gym work and continue eating mostly healthy.
It's funny how I hadn't ridden a bike in 30 years, thought cyclists were twats that blocked up the roads and now I'm the total opposite, I love cycling, I watch all the Redbull/UCI events and am putting some pennies away every month to get myself a Tallboy.
Here's a snap of my pretty boring H/T.

Thanks for the friendly welcome fella's.
I'm very lucky living where I do, Poole is smack bang in the middle of some decent riding areas, I've got a short ferry trip to get to the Purbecks, a 10 minute drive to Wareham Forest and a 20 minute drive to get to Moors Valley Country Park. I've also found a couple of old railway tracks that have been converted to bridleways, these are great to ride as there's plenty of mud and little diversions you can take.
My commute is along the sea front, probably one of the nicest places to ride in the country, although it's a grind in the summer when it gets too busy down there and you can't get any pace going.
I've recently discovered a decent, mostly flat and muddy ride that's about 10 miles each way and there's a pub at the other end that does half decent coffee and the landlord is bike friendly, so that's a bonus.

Ahhh excellent, another tall member. We should start a group. As long as the bike gets you to where you need and puts a smile on your face, then it's going its job!

A fat bloke on a mountain bike...I could do without the competition, you know! Seriously, welcome. Used to go out with a girl from Poole many moons ago, stunning part of England.

Nice welcome guys, I think I'll hang around for a bit longer and enjoy the banter
Well spotted on the stem extension by the way, I can't believe such a small item made my ride so much more comfortable, pity I only discovered these devices 6 months ago or I would have saved myself a whole load of back ache.
