I would never have been to certain places, (including A&E), seen certain views and met so many great people if it wasn't for mountain biking. I'm loving it.

Agree with all of the above! Ive lived in the Lake District all my life but the two years I've been on my bike have shown me views and perspectives I never knew existed!
I've been part of a documentary with a young filmmaker for a submission to the Sheffield Adventure Film Festival this weekend, and that was actually one of the interview questions! She messaged me tonight to say she had managed to get my talking down to 11 minutes and the film is not allowed to be longer than 5 minutes! She didn't want to cut anymore out!! Haha

Similar here. Lived by Cannock forest for 40 years and have seen more of it in the last 3 years than all the rest of the years put together.

I've seen more of my country because of MTB and met loads of cool folks because of MTB and it's made me a happier guy for it, although my wife would beg to differ

agree! you definitely see parts of the country (world if your lucky) that you wouldn't see otherwise. its not all about the gnarl and the rad . its sometimes about being amongst the scenery and solitude. OMG I sound like a right owd t**t

and it's made me a happier guy for it, although my wife would beg to differ I wouldn't be surprised if its also caused a few divorces....... that's if our bikes get more attention than our other halfs and stuff

The ascents are for admiring the beauty and stuff, and chatting to the other awesome riders... The descent is where you can get all gnarly and rad! Perfection!

OMG I sound like a right owd t**t Absolutely mate, call me an old fart but i like the solitude on a solo ride, my very first proper mtb ride was at GT black route and it was one of the best days ever, it was May, sunny, very green, I stopped at a point on the trail and actually called my wife about how utterly superb it was, I also had ten minutes rest on the black route last year, just me, and the sound of nothing but insects ,birds, and my breathing then a red squirrel hopped by, then a lone deer crept by, amazing how quite deer are but how big they are, brilliant

I agree with everything that has been said ..I started mountain biking to get to places I couldn't walk to in a day .. For the first 10 years I was in the main a solo rider and loved it . ..and became a very reluctant ( at first ) group rider . I wouldn't swap the folks I ride with now ..and we have shared many adventures and experiences that I wouldn't change for any amount of money ...the memories from which I will take with me to my grave I still enjoy the occasional days on my own ..but always let the missus know where I am going As I have said before I just wish I had started earlier ..but there is still a lot more I intend doing ..before I can't !

Meeting up with great people , some crazy ones as well Doing somthing that I would never think I would be able to do .. Bhf dark peaks ride ... Nite riding s..ting my pants in woods thinking wtf was that sound , to come a cross a massive big old deer .. Don't no who was more scare , but watching it crashing up the hill was a fantastic sight .. Riding out with people or just riding on my own , on my Mtb or r..d bike just day dreaming away , . Plus finding new trails even if it go's no were .. So you end up pushing ya bike back up the hill.. (Had some shit off my mates for that one lol )

What makes it all worth while is not seeing or hearing the wife!

It fits all circumstances: Biking is something that you can enjoy on your own or with mates. It's something you can fit in when you've got the odd hour or spend days on. You can do it cheap or spend big money on it.
It's good your soul, feels good and keeps you fit. It burns off hangovers. It even saves fuel if you've got a quick errand. It gives you an excuse to go in the garage/shed.
You see some good scenery, accomplish something and have a laugh (especially at others misfortunes and weaknesses).
Even old farts can do it.
What's not to like! Bugger it, I'm off out.
