I currently run a On One Smorgasbord on the rear (trail extreme 60/42a compound) and for the £10 I paid for it it's been a great tire with good grip in the wet/on roots.
It's now coming to the end of it life and in true On One style they're now £25 so I'm looking for an alternative with good grip in the wet/roots and tough enough for regular Lakes weekends but maybe a bit easier rolling than the Smorg.
cheers

Panaracer XC pro worth a look? I've had 2 in the man cave for 6 months - waiting for the Chunky monkey and Smorg to wear out to try em!

Got a set of 2.1's with one lap of Gisburn on them, didn't like them, not enough volume or grip compared with the smog\Cm combo. Also tried Geax Goma which were OK in the dry and fast rolling but lethal in the wet.

Running Conti' Mountain King on the rear of mine, Black Chilli compound as well, but at £50ish a pop, probably not what you're looking for.

It's not really about the money,I don't mind spending for the right tyre but don't want to add another tyre to my growing collection.I'm just looking to see what other tyre would suit my needs and would really like something a little less draggy but with the same amount of grip

True dat Adam. In my own personal experience then the best rear tyre I have had has been the Nobby Nic snakeskin evo I had on the Cube Plenty enough grip for a rear tyre and faster rolling than the smorgasbord or the HD.

I particularly hate the smorgasbord on the front or rear, I didn't find it either grippy or fast rolling....

Smorg was/is fine for me on the back - wouldn't want one on the front though! You probably just had your tyre pressures wrong

No i just realised because they're a measly £10 it outweighs people's opinion of them.. "£10 ahh they'll do!" .... Kind of attitude..

Yeah not overly impressed with my smorgasbord, it was ok but much prefer my nobby nic on the rear, feels faster to me, but not sure if thats just because its lighter. impressed with my first minion up front so may try an ardent on the rear next,

Rubber Queen/Trail King
Huge volume, grip on everything!
Recommend, especially if you get Black Chilli version, however my cheapo ones are lasting just fine
