I'm currently converting my pike from a 150 to a 160. While doing the conversion I thought I'd also have a look at the lowers to see if I needed to do a lower service (my forks are only 4 rides old) so far I have noticed that there was next to no oil in the non drive side (should be 15mm) and both the sponges that sit under the top seals were both bone dry!
I'm now glad that I decided to take my forks apart today as a dry fork will only damage itself sooner rather than later.
If you have a new pike which hasn't been serviced yet, do yourself a favour and drop the lowers to see if they need a service. It's very easy to do!

MBR has a good guide to a lower service in septembers issue, I think there is also one on the online Enduro mag website
