I can do you a Nukeproof mega with pikes and Hope wheels for a little over 1k and it will be full of new parts. I would have a look at this mate, post the spec Barffy.. To add my 2 pence worth, think hard before committing to an XC bike, I bought one 2 years ago thinking that was all I wanted to do but ended up buying a full sus 14 months later. I did exactly the same as this the mega will not be as good for the Xc run but that is one run and after that all you'll want is the mega!

Nukeproof Mega 2012 Frame, size small - Raw/Anodised Silver Brand new Zero Rides old (Actually, when I went building the other day I took the bike and did less than 1 mile on it) X Fusion O2 RLX Shock with Lock/Platform/Open Rockshox Pike RCT3 forks, 160mm travel Hope Pro 2 Evo Hubs (black) on Stans No tubes Crest rims (black) running true and free Hans Dampf Snakeskin Trailstar front tyre setup tubeless Nobby Nic Snakeskin Pacestar Rear Tyre setup tubeless Shimano XT Crank Race face narrow wide 34T Shimano XT Cassette with one up components 42t Range extender and bridge gear KMC X10 gold chain Shimano Saint Pedals Brand new X7 Match maker shifter mounted to brand new DB3 Brakes - Zero rides old Brand new Zero rides old X7 Type 2 clutch rear mech. Brand new zero rides old Alpha stem (60mm) Brand new Zero rides old Alpha bars (750mm) Brand new ODI Ruffian grips - zero rides old (note, grips are new, lock rings aren't!)
I can't think of anything else, other than I could be persuaded to include the Reverb for a bit of extra cash. It was replaced under warranty about 8 rides ago so is obviously as new and working perfectly. Oh and i'll leave my Charge spoon on regardless. If you don't want the reverb you can either have a used carbon post on or a brand new alloy black one.
Im wanting £1100, which considering I spent twice that building it I think it's a good price.
I also know it's a tiny bit over your price range, but the spec destroys the bike you listed at the top end and I can guarantee you will be getting upgrade-itus and spending many £££ more on it.
This has genuinely been the best bike I have ever been on, apart from a six grand Pivot but hey, it was 6k! It's not a bad climber, but obviously its more biased to the downs where it just charges through everything and makes up for lack of skill!

I'll get some pic's up once the shock is back from getting it's bushings changed so that it will fit the frame.
I will add it's in very good condition, I've used it for everything from XC to light Downhill, so does have some rub marks and scratches etc.

To add my 2 pence worth, think hard before committing to an XC bike, I bought one 2 years ago thinking that was all I wanted to do but ended up buying a full sus 14 months later. Spot on this is ^ You'll love your XC bike until you get a whiff of some nice, flowy trails with jumps and berms. You'll then regret it and wish for a more capable bike... XC mile munching is fun, but i think everyone on here would agree, riding trails is much more enjoyable. That Nukeproof is a bargain! You'd be silly not to consider it! I brought my bike a few years back, thinking that it was the bees knees. That was until i started riding proper trails and not just bridleways across fields and cycletracks! I've spent loads of money on the bike now, making it more capable, and it is nice to ride on whatever i chuck at it, but i'd feel like i could push myself alot further if i had a more capable, longer travel bike. These latest, top end FS bikes look super versatile. The majority of people you see out now are on long travel FS bikes, so the proof is in the pudding. If i could take myself back a couple of years, i would have waited until i had enough money to buy a better bike from the start!

I also bought an out and out 100mm travel XC bike, a Cube. It lasted a year before I realised mile munching is boring and wanted to hit more singletrack type stuff. Get Barrfy's bike. Seriously.

Sorry lads as a 6'2" rider ..and having just noticed that the frame size is small on Barffy's spec ..this wouldn't be the bike for Duncan . My apologies for highlighting this as it IS a bargain at that price ..but we are not here to give bad advice ...

Also I think it's a right of passage to get a new bike you upgrade like mad then replace. I suggested the boardman first post and I still think it's the perfect bike. If you enjoy it and want to do more, great get another bike in a few years and have two good bikes, if not you have a decent all rounder that will suit xc and trail centre stuff
